NCAA Football Week 13 Must Bet Games – 2018 Season

Saturday, November 24

Georgia Tech at Georgia

Georgia Tech struggled mightily a year ago in going 5-6 to finish third in the ACC Coastal Division in 2017 under head longtime coach Paul Johnson. Now, the Yellow Jackets are looking to rebound in a big way, but there are question marks almost everywhere, starting at the game’s most important position. Senior signal-caller TaQuon Marshall had six 100-yard rushing games, but struggled to throw the ball consistently. Georgia Tech does return six offensive linemen with starting experience and some quality depth at running back so their triple-option rushing attack has that going for them. However, there are more question marks at wide receiver. Defensively, the Yellow Jackets made a big change by hiring Nate Woody from Appalachian State as their new defensive coordinator. The switch from Ted Roof’s 4-2-5 to Woody’s 3-4 could take some time to master.

By now, everyone knows that Georgia went 13-2 and made it all the way to the national championship game before falling to Alabama 26-23 in a thriller. The good news for the Bulldogs is that head coach Kirby Smart has quarterback Jake Fromm returning for what will only be his sophomore season. The bad news is that the Dawgs lost running backs Nick Chubb and Sonny Michel. Still, Fromm is going to be even better than he was a year again and third-string running back D’Andre Swift is supremely talented. Superstar linebacker Roquan Smith is also gone, but the Bulldogs have a boatload of raw talent on that side of the ball starting with shut-down cornerback Deandre Baker, safety J.R. Reed, defensive linemen Jonathan Ledbetter and Tyler Clark.

Georgia blew Georgia Tech out of the water in its 38-7 win over Tech as a 11.5-point road favorite and this Week 13 showdown shouldn’t be close either. Georgia is now a legitimate national championship contender and Georgia Tech is simply looking to get back to being respectable.

South Carolina at Clemson

South Carolina had a solid 9-4 season a year ago to finish second to Georgia in the SEC East while Clemson went 12-2 to win the ACC Atlantic division and reach the four-team playoff for the third straight year. The Gamecocks pounded Michigan in the Outback Bowl to finish on a high note but now they’ve got another new offensive coordinator heading into 2018. Quarterback Jake Bentley, who has started the last 20 games and thrown for 4,214 yards in that span, is back as is gifted wide receiver Deebo Samuel, but outside that pair, there are question marks everywhere – especially on defense.

Are the Tigers a safe bet to win in NCAA Footbal lWeek 13?

Clemson has some uncertainty at quarterback where Kelly Bryant was good last season, but not as great as his predecessor, Deshaun Watson was (duh). Now, with elite recruit Trevor Lawrence in the fold, things are interesting for beloved head coach Dabo Swinney. Clemson has produced a bunch of big-time wide receivers the last few years that have all gone on to the NFL and they’ve got some more immense talent at the position for whoever gets the starting job under center. Not only that, but the Tigers have an insanely talented defensive line with All-Americans Christian Wilkins, Clelin Ferrell and Austin Bryant and junior Dexter Lawrence.

Clemson routed South Carolina 34-10 last season and they’re the pick to get the big win at home again, no matter who their starting quarterback is. Dabo Swinney has too much talent on both sides of the ball to lose this game at home, although South Carolina won’t simply roll over. This one will be closer than last season’s matchup, but the Tigers win by at least 10.
