Texas Longhorns (3-4) at Baylor Bears (0-7)

Texas has been competitive in the first year of the Tom Herman era this season and the Longhorns nearly pulled off the upset over No. 11 Oklahoma State this past weekend before falling 13-10 in overtime. While Baylor may still be winless heading into this matchup, the Bears also have a really good head coach in the first-year leader Matt Rhule. Despite their uninspiring record coming into this contest, the Bears are clearly playing much better football now than they were at the start of the season. As a matter of fact, Baylor nearly pulled off its own upset of No. 22 West Virginia by scoring 23 unanswered points in the fourth quarter before coming up just short in their heartbreaking 38-36 home loss. To get right to the point, I really like Baylor right now as a 9-point home underdog against Texas seeing as how they’ve gone 4-1 ATS in their last five conference games and 5-2 ATS in their last seven meetings against Texas. I think the Bears are getting better and I genuinely believe that Matt Rhule is just as good of a head coach as Tom Herman even if the latter gets more national media attention for his work at Houston than Rhule does despite putting Temple on the national map the last two years.

The Michigan Wolverines will look to rebound from their humbling loss against rival Penn State last weekend and they, but the fact of the matter is that Jim Harbaugh’s team is as offensively-challenged as any team in the nation right now. Rutgers has played some inspiring football in beating Illinois 35-24 two weeks ago and Purdue, 14-12 this past weekend. Just over 60 percent of public bettors are already backing the Scarlet Knights to cover the spread as whopping 24-point road dogs and I wholeheartedly agree. Rutgers is 4-0 ATS in their last four games against a team with a winning record and Michigan simply doesn’t have enough talent on the offensive side of the ball to beat the Scarlet Knights by 25 points. Simply put, back Rutgers to easily cover the chalk and don’t be surprised if they push the Wolverines for the outright win.

I predicted second-ranked Penn State’s big win against Michigan this past weekend and now, I like the Nittany Lions to take down No. 6 Ohio State in their immense Week 9 Big Ten battle despite being on the road. I know the Buckeyes have been playing outstanding football recently by scoring at least 54 points in each of their last four games, but the fact of the matter is that Ohio State hasn’t exactly beaten a bunch of powerful teams in getting past UNLV, Rutgers, Maryland, and Nebraska during the stretch. Penn State has the best player in all college football on their side in running back Saquon Barkley. After beating the Buckeyes 24-21 at home last season, I like them to hand Ohio State their second straight loss in this series this coming Saturday. I know Ohio State has a genuine star in dual-threat quarterback J.T. Barrett and that the Buckeyes are playing at home, but Penn State has the better defense this season and two Heisman Trophy candidates to counter Barrett within the super versatile Barkley and quarterback Trace McSorley. The Nittany Lions are a near perfect 11-1-1 ATS in their last 13 conference games, 10-1-1 ATS in their last 12 games following an ATS win and 8-1-2 ATS in their last 11 games against a team with a winning record. Despite their recent string of routes, the Buckeyes are still just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 home games. Not only does Penn State cover the spread as 6-point road dogs, but they do so by winning outright!
