2022 Tour de France Betting Update: Pogacar Dominates Stage 6

After the Tour de France’s first week, a couple of things are apparent. Jonas Vingegaard is Jumbo-Visma’s best shot at winning the yellow jersey, Jumbo cyclist Wout van Aert is a sprinting demon, and Tadej Pogacar is the best cyclist in the world. Check out which cyclists wear the yellow, the green, the white, and the polka dot shirts heading into the weekend into next week’s stages at the 2022 Tour de France. Let’s jump right into action so you can continue making your bets against the Tour de France Odds.

  • When: July 1 – July 24
  • Where: Denmark & France
  • TV/Streaming: NBC Sports / Peacock

Wout van Aert is the green jersey sprinting leader

Jumbo-Visma remains the strongest overall team at the Tour de France. Neither Jonas Vingegaard nor Primoz Roglic should win the yellow jersey, but Wout van Aert can take home the green jersey.

The green jersey goes to the best sprinting cyclist. The 27-year-old Belgian started the Tour finishing second in the first three stages: the time trial and at Roskilde Nyborg and Vejle Sonderborg.

His efforts were good enough to grab both the green jersey and the yellow jersey. Wout no longer has the yellow jersey, but he won Stage 4, the hilly stage at famous Dunkirk Calais, to maintain his green jersey hold.

The sprinting leader has a 61 points lead over the Netherlands Fabio Jakobsen, 198 points to 137. Expect van Aert to continue to excel in the remaining sprints.

There’s a surprise cyclist wearing the polka dot jersey

A surprise cyclist is at the top of the climbers category. Denmark’s Magnus Cort has 11 points and wears the polka dot jersey.

Cort has held the polka dot since Stage 2. He also won the combativity award for his grit in Stage 3 and Stage 5.

The Dane may hold on to the polka dot shirt, but he’s got competition on his heels in both Wout van Aert and France’s Alex Vuillermoz. The battle for the polka dot jersey should be exciting.

Tadej Pogacar grabs the yellow jersey, can anyone catch him?

It didn’t take long for Tadej Pogacar to assert himself. The two-time defending Tour de France Champion won Stage 6, the hilly Binche Longwy, to grab the yellow jersey general classification.

The yellow jersey is the one that all cyclists dream of wearing. Pogacar won it in 2020 and then won it last year.

Pogacar also sports the white jersey. The white jersey goes to the best young rider. Pogacar qualifies because the Slovakian is just 23.

Now that Pogacar is in first place, it will take a gargantuan effort to catch him. American Neilsson Powless is just 4 seconds behind. But Powless, to be fair, should fall well behind Jonas Vingegaard in third.

Vingegaard has a shot, but it’s a puncher’s chance. The Jumbo-Visma cyclist was 31 seconds behind Tadej heading into Friday’s Stage 7.

The problem is that Pogacar has grabbed the lead so early in the event. He’s the top cyclist in the world. Primoz Roglic appeared ready to provide his best, but Jumbo-Visma’s best hope to win the Tour de France before the race started is in twenty-eighth place.

Roglic should make a move because he’s that good. But it probably won’t be enough. Right now, Pogacar looks like a lock to win his third straight Tour de France.
