Golden Globes Best Television Shows Odds and Picks

2022 Golden Globe Awards

  • Where: TBD
  • TV / Streaming: TBD

Golden Globes Best Drama, Best Miniseries, Best Comedy Television Awards

Best Miniseries or TV Film

  • Mare of Easttown -300
  • The Underground Railroad +300
  • MAID +600
  • Impeachment: American Crime Story +1200
  • Dopesick +1500

Mare of Easttown sure looks like a lock. The 7-part series about a former basketball hero, Mare Sheehan played by Kate Winslet, trying to solve a murder is compelling in every way. A victory at low odds wouldn’t surprise.

Both The Underground Railroad and MAID have better shots than their odds indicate, though. The Underground Railroad is a terrific adaptation of Colson Whitehead’s Pulitzer Prize winning novel. The performances are fantastic.

MAID is about a single mom who leaves an abusive relationship and must now raise her young daughter by herself. To do so, she takes jobs as a maid. Although The Underground Railroad and MAID are both deserving, MAID’s better odds makes it the top pick.

The underdog choice is easy. Impeachment: American Crime Story is all about Bill, Hillary, Monica, and the famous blue dress. The +1200 on Impeachment are overlay odds.

Golden Globe Top Pick: Maid

Golden Globe Underdog Pick: Impeachment: American Crime Story

Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy

  • Ted Lasso -300
  • Only Murders in the Building +350
  • Hacks +700
  • The Great +1300
  • Reservation Dogs +2000

Everybody loves Ted Lasso. So, yes, it will probably win. But it’s hard to look past Only Murders in the Building. Selena Gomez, Martin Short, and Steve Martin are terrific, the story is great, and Lasso may have had its run.

The underdog play is Reservation Dogs. The show is one of the freshest, funniest, and most entertaining to come around in a long time. Netflix is probably kicking themselves because Reservation Dogs, like Only Murders in the Building, is on Hulu.

Golden Globe Top Pick: Only Murders in the Building

Golden Globe Underdog Pick: Reservation Dogs

Best Television Series – Drama

  • Succession
  • Lupin
  • The Morning Show
  • Squid Game
  • Pose

Lupin, The Morning Show, and Pose, are all good shows, but they don’t stand a chance of beating Succession or Squid Game

Squid Game is one of the most watched shows in Netflix history, which is interesting because the show comes from a Korean production company. Squid Game is also a great tale about how something created by humans and doesn’t exist in any other species, debt, can cause us to act like the worst multi-celled organisms on Earth.

It’s brilliant for sure, and could easily win the Globe. But let’s be honest, Squid Game doesn’t just teeter on the brink of impossibility, it’s an impossible farce, meaning there’s no way anything close to Squid Game could ever happen.

Succession, on the other hand, is amazingly believable. The Roys act like any other dysfunctional American family with a dementia-addled, overbearing, and hateful-racist patriarch except in this case, there’s billions of dollars involved.

The series produced by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay is also one of the funniest shows on television. Succession is one of the greats, up there with Breaking Bad, The Sopranos, and Friday Night Lights, and, so, it should win.

But like we wrote above, don’t discount Squid Game. The Netflix show has caused a gold rush for Korean drama. So even though it doesn’t have nearly the depth of other Korean shows like Stranger, it’s a disruptor.

Golden Globe Top Pick: Succession

Golden Globe Underdog Pick: Squid Game
