There are favorites and then there are true favorites! Take U.S. gymnast Laurie Hernandez for example. In case you have not checked the current betting odds yet, Las Vegas oddsmakers have installed the Olympic champion and balance beam silver medalist as the favorite to bag the coveted Mirrorball trophy on the 23rd edition of the wildly popular television show, “Dancing With the Stars.”

The 16-year-old superstar from New Jersey is a +250  favorite to become the “DWTS” Season 23 champion, followed by Amber Rose (+700) and 90s rapper Vanilla Ice (+700). Former Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson has +750 odds, while Hernandez’s fellow Team USA member, swimmer Ryan Lochte, is a bit further down the list at +1000. Hernandez is the youngest contestant competing on the popular TV show. The Olympic Athlete follows the footsteps of Shawn Johnson, Alexandra Raisman and Nastia Liukin, the pro gymnast has plenty of rhythm and a sparkly personality to help her go far in the game. It’s not hard to see why Hernandez is the favorite candidate to take home the Mirror Ball Trophy.

As far as Hernandez is concerned, there’s plenty of reasons why the gymnast is the most popular selection to win DWTS 23. First and foremost, Olympic gymnasts have historically done quite well on DWTS. Former Olympic gymnast Shawn Johnson won the Mirror Ball Trophy in season eight and then finished second in season 15’s all-star contest while Hernandez’s Final Five teammate Aly Raisman finished fourth during Season 16. Another teammate, gymnast Nastia Liukin also competed on “DWTS” in season 20 and just missed out on the finals by finishing in fourth place.

Hernandez is clearly the odds-on-favorite as Olympics gymnastics commentators consistently praised her for her floor exercise routines, in which she showed off some of her impressive dance moves. No doubt, Hernandez has elite balance, strength, flexibility and rhythm, and those athletic traits have translated well to the dance floor in seasons past.
