The start of the Formula 1 season is upon us, but are we on the brink of seeing history being made. Lewis Hamilton has been a dominant force in the sport for years now and has racked up 7 world championships, which means that he is now in a tie with Michael Schumacher for the most titles ever. He can make history if he wins it all again this year, and while he is certainly the favorite to do just that, there are a couple of drivers who might potentially ruin the script. It all begins this weekend in Bahrain with the first Grand Prix of the new season. What may come as a surprise to many is that Hamilton is not currently the favorite to win. Let’s take a closer look at the favorites to win the 2021 Bahrain GP so you can bet against their Formula 1 odds.
Formula 1 Betting Analysis for the 2021 Bahrain Grand Prix
Max Verstappen (+120)
While we are certainly not suggesting that Verstappen could have won the championship last season, you do have to take into account the fact that he did not finish 5 races. He did, though, win twice, while also landing on the podium 9 different times. In fact, of the races that he managed to complete, Verstappen was on the podium in all but one of them. That is the sort of consistency that is going to be required if he plans on making a serious run at the title this year. He was forced to retire twice in his last 4 appearances in Bahrain, but he did manage to take 2nd there last year.
Lewis Hamilton (+150)
There are going to be some who wonder just how ready Hamilton is for the new season after seeing his contract talks with Mercedes go longer than anyone expected. It’s probably not a good idea to question the readiness of Hamilton, though, as this is a driver who seems to be able to set everything aside and focus on the task at hand once he gets behind the wheel. Hamilton has won in Bahrain in each of the last two seasons and has made a habit of landing on the podium there. At these odds, he looks like an absolute steal.
Valtteri Bottas (+550)
With Bottas in as the other member of the Mercedes team, he is perhaps in a bit of an awkward position. Does he play the role of the obliging teammate and help Hamilton get to his record-setting title win, or does he go it alone and put up a challenge? He is certainly capable of the latter, as he has finished 2nd in the overall driver standings in each of the last 2 seasons. Bottas won the opening race of the year in both of those seasons, although those were in Austria. He does have podium finishes in Bahrain in 3 of his last 4 runs there, so do not count him out.
Sergio Perez (+700)
It has been an exciting few months for Perez, starting with his first ever F1 win at the Sakhir Grand Prix at the tail end of last season. His overall performance last season, in which he finished 4th overall in the driver standings, caught the eye of Team Red Bull. They signed him to a contract that will have him as the teammate of Max Verstappen this season. Can Perez now take the next step forward?
