The new F1 season is underway, but there is still plenty of time to get in and put your money on who you think might end the 2021 season at the top of the driver standings. After an offseason where it looked as though Lewis Hamilton might jump ship, he chose to stay with Mercedes and take a run at a record-breaking 8th world title. He has been a class above the rest over the past decade or so, but there are a couple of drivers who could potentially push him hard this season. Are you guys going to stick with the defending champion or are you ready to take a chance on another driver? Let’s take a look at the current Formula 1 odds of the favorites to win the F1 World Championship in 2021.
Formula 1 Betting – Last minute Drivers Championships odds
Lewis Hamilton (-200)
It was a bit of a strange offseason in that Hamilton left it very late to sign a new contract with Mercedes. He has had a ton of success with that team, so the thought of him going anywhere else, or even walking away from the sport seemed ridiculous. This is especially true when you consider that after winning it all in 2020, he is now tied with Michael Schumacher for the most titles ever. A driver as competitive as Hamilton is not going to leave a shot at being the best ever sitting on the table. Some believed that the lateness of the signing might have an impact on Hamilton’s performance, but a win in the opening race in Bahrain has put that idea to rest.
Max Verstappen (+140)
It would be tough to bet against Hamilton based on how dominant he has been and how he has started this season. That said, if you were inclined to take a chance, Max Verstappen looks like the best option. He had a disappointing season in that he was forced to retire in a handful of races, but in the ones that he was able to get to the finish line, he routinely made it onto the podium. Verstappen started the season in Bahrain by finishing second to Hamilton. He is going to need to find ways to get to the checkered flag first, as every time he finishes behind the champs means that it’s less likely he will be able to dig out of the hole and catch up.
Valtteri Bottas (+2500)
We are certainly not suggesting that Bottas is going to sit back and let his Mercedes teammate win the driver championship, or that the team is more committed to Hamilton than Bottas, but you feel that it’s certainly an option. Bottas has seen his odds to win drop dramatically in recent weeks, and after finishing 3rd in Bahrain win Week 1, he is already behind the 8-ball. At these odds, though, it might be worth taking a little chance here.
