There were no real surprises in the 2020 Formula 1 season, with Lewis Hamilton continuing to dominate the sport. Hamilton ran away with the World Championship, his 4th in a row and 7th in his career, clinching the title with weeks to spare. Since the end of the season, we have seen drivers making moves to other teams, while others, Hamilton included, are still waiting to see where they will be driving next season. We are going to get into all of that, starting with the Hamilton situation, which now looks close to being settled. That said, let’s get to it so you can keep on planning your bets for the next season and place them against our Formula 1 odds.

Everyone knew that Hamilton’s contract with Mercedes was coming to an end, but it seemed as though both sides were willing to wait until the end of the season before making any sort of announcement about a potential contract renewal. Hamilton had previously said that he would like to see a deal done before Christmas, with that now looking realistic after Mercedes basically hinted on Twitter that a deal was all but done. Expect this piece of business to be completed sooner rather than later, with Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas, who has already signed, representing Mercedes next year.
The Red Bull team is the one that poses the biggest challenge to Mercedes, but they had some decisions to make at the end of the 2020 season. With Max Verstappen already under contract, the team wanted a driver to make the team stronger. That was why they went after Sergio Perez, who is coming off a season where he clinched his first career F1 win. The arrival of Perez meant that it was the end of the road for Alex Albon. The British driver had a couple of podium finishes last season, but Red Bull felt that his inconsistency was an issue, which was another reason why they signed Perez.
Despite the fact that F1 has a freeze on chassis changes next season, teams are allowed to tinker with aerodynamics. Ferrari made it clear that they would be doing that and have now announced that they will have a new car on the track next season. The new vehicle, which has been named the SF21, is being kept under wraps for now, but we do know when we will get our first look. The car, as well as announcements about their management and driver lineup, will be unveiled in Barcelona prior to the start of pre-season testing.
That is all the news that we have for now, but as the 2021 season gets closer, we are sure that there will be more to report. We will do all we can to ensure that we get the latest F1 news to you as it happens.
