You don’t have to be a huge fan of Formula 1 to know that Lewis Hamilton has been a dominant force in the sport for many years now. In fact, he came into this season knowing that another championship would mean that he would have the most world titles (8) of any driver in history. Given how good he has been, there were many who believed that he would once again waltz away with the title. It is still very early in the season, but we are seeing a great battle at the top of the driver standings. Yes, Hamilton has the lead, but he also has Max Verstappen nipping at his heels. This weekend, the attention shifts to Spain for the next grand prix. Let’s take a look at the current favorites along with their Formula 1 odds.
Formula 1 Betting Analysis for the Aramco Gran Premio De España
Lewis Hamilton (-140)
As we already mentioned, Hamilton is in his familiar spot atop the driver standings, but it should be noted that his lead is a mere 8 points. This, though, is only after 3 races on the season, 2 of which Hamilton has won, while finishing 2nd in the other. If you look back at his history in the Spanish Grand Prix, you would certainly think that Hamilton has a legitimate shot at extending his lead this coming Sunday. He is on a run that has seen him win each of the last 4 times in this race, so can anyone break through and beat him to the checkered flag? History would suggest not.
Max Verstappen (+190)
Outside of Hamilton, there has perhaps been no driver in F1 more consistent that the Dutchman, and he is once again off to a very good start. Verstappen saw his season derailed in 2020 by too many races where he was unable to finish, but that has not been an issue through the opening 3 races of this season. Verstappen has finished 2nd in both the races that Hamilton won, while also picking up a win in Italy in the second race of the season. He has landed on the podium in each of his last 3 runs in the Spanish Grand Prix, so expect him to be there or thereabouts again.
Valtteri Bottas (+700)
Life in Formula 1 is a bit of a thankless task for Bottas, as he is once again Lewis Hamilton’s teammate with Mercedes. He has been consistently good in his time in the sport, but his efforts have always been overshadowed by the champion. He has once again made a decent start to the season, nabbing a pair of podium finishes, but he also failed to finish in Italy, which hurt his points total for the season. He has also been consistent in Spain, finishing on the podium in each of his last 3 runs there.
Sergio Perez (+1600)
While 2020 was a tough year for everyone involved in the sport, it proved to be a memorable one for Perez, who picked up his first ever win in F1. That was followed by a move to Red Bull Racing, where he is a teammate with Max Verstappen. He has not made a huge impact yet this season and has yet to get himself a podium finish. His best finish in this race is 4th, which came back in 2017, so he is definitely a longshot heading into the weekend.
