2022 French Open Picks for Day 3 | ATP Betting

Aljaz Bedene vs Pablo Cuevas

Aljaz Bedene and Pablo Cuevas will clash on Wednesday in what promises to be a fairly one-sided affair. Cuevas, ranked no. 149 in the world, has made it to the second round with a phenomenal performance against Brooksby, who he beat in straight sets (3-0), while Bedene took down O’Collen 3-1 to book a ticket for the second round.

Even though Cuevas has looked better in his opening match of the French Open, Bedene has a solid chance to take down the world no.149 on Wednesday. The two tennis players met twice before, in 2018 and 2019, with both games ending in favor of Cuevas (3-0, 2-0).

Moreover, both matches happened on clay, so it’s fair to favor the Peruvian tennis player for this match. Still, Bedene has been showing improvements of late and has achieved solid results on clay in 2022. 

Admittedly, he has yet to win a tournament title, and he like won’t make it all the way in France, but the Slovenian tennis player has the tools to deal with Cuevas. This seems like a 50/50 match, so we have to side with Bedene at outsider odds. 

Prediction: Aljaz Bedene to win

Grigor Dimitrov vs Borna Coric

World no. 21 Grigor Dimitrov will lock horns with the current world no.279 Borna Coric in the 1/32-finals of the 2022 French Open for the first time since June 2020. The two have met three times over their careers, and currently, Dimitrov leads in the head-to-head with 2-1.

He won his first clash with Coric in 2015 with 2-0 and added another victory in January 2020 (2-1). However, Coric won the last meeting in June 2020 when he won in straight sets (2-0).

Admittedly, the result from two years ago doesn’t mean much, and it doesn’t indicate that Coric can win again. There is a good reason why he is priced as a +300 underdog, and we don’t see a problem with that.

Moreover, Dimitrov is 3-2 over his last five clay-court matches, and since both defeats came against Tsitsipas (0-2, 1-2), we wouldn’t criticize him too much for that.

It’s also important to note that Dimitrov won against Schwartzman (2-0) in Madrid and has picked up two easy wins against Nakashima (2-0) and Giron (3-0), who he beat in the first round of the French Open.

On the other side, Coric is 1-4 across his last five outings. That run includes defeats against Sinners (1-2), Cobolli (1-2), Lajovic (1-2), and Djere (1-2). His only win came against Taberner (3-1) in the first round of the French Open.

Coric’s chances to win are very slim, but he has shown some glimpses of greatness before, and considering Dimitrov has dropped sets against weaker opponents before, it’s fair to expect Coric to win at least one on Wednesday.

We don’t expect Coric to upset Dimitrov, but he should be able to keep it close and put up a strong fight.
