A Little Bit of History

Berger also claimed the 2016 title at St. Jude by shooting a 13-under par to beat out Brooks Koepka, Phil Mickelson, and Steve Stricker all by three strokes. Fabian Gonzalez won in 2015 with a 13-under par to beat out Greg Owen by four strokes. Ben Crane won in 2014 by shooting a 10-under par to beat out Troy Merritt by one stroke. Harris English shot a 12-under par to claim the hardware in 2013 by two strokes over Mickelson and Scott Stallings and Dustin Johnson won this event in 2012 by shooting a 9-under par to beat out John Merrick by one stroke. Now, let’s take a look at the odds and the handful of players I expect to really challenge for the title this weekend.

Analyzing the Favorites

Dustin Johnson

Johnson win this event back in 2012 and he looked to be on top of his game in finishing T-8 in The Memorial last weekend. Despite not finding his way into the winner’s circle since January and losing his World No. 1 ranking to Justin Thomas recently, Johnson has also finished inside the top 20 in each of his last nine PGA Tour events and leads all golfers in strokes gained off the tee this year (1.003 per round)

Daniel Berger

Anytime you win the same tournament two years in a row, you’re a solid pick to do so again, no matter good or bad you may be playing prior to that tournament. Berger has a chance to join Dave Hill and Lee Trevino as the only golfers to win this event at least three times and his past history says he’s worthy of a wager at the very least. Daniel Berger is one of the Golf Betting favorites to win the 2018 St. Jude Classic. Berger finished 57th at The Players Championship and 55th at the Wells Fargo Championship, but he’s missed the cut just once in his last 14 events.

Phil Mickelson

‘Lefty’ has recorded three top-five finishes in the last five years at St. Jude and finished a solid T-13 at the Memorial last weekend.

Ben Crane

Crane has six Top 20 finishes in his career here plus his victory in 2014 and a top 10 finish a year ago.

Charl Schwartzel

Schwartzel finished T2 here last year and looks like he’s ready to get a win despite not making the cut at The Memorial last weekend. Prior to last week’s tourney, Schwartzel finished a stellar second at The Player’s Championship, ninth at Wells Fargo and third in the Zürich Classic. I like one of these five golfers to win the 2018 St. Jude Classic and believe all are offering some great value at the latest Golf Betting Odds to win.
