The 117th version of the US Open will be played at the Erin Hills course in Wisconsin, which will represent the first time that this particular major has been played in that state. The tournament will be played on June 15-18, and will have a top prize of over $2 million. While the money is certainly nice, it’s the prestige of winning a major that all 156 players who have entered this tournament will be after.     Dustin Johnson is the #1 golfer in the world, and he has more than lived up to that billing this season. You can bet that he is going to be the favorite heading into the next major event, as he is essentially the top dog at every event he takes part in. This course may not be too familiar to a lot of the players on tour, though, so perhaps that will play a role in separating the contenders from the also-rans. Johnson is almost certianly going to be in the former group. Winning a major in the current season will almost definitely mean that you are among the favorites when the next one rolls around. If that is indeed the case, then look for Sergio Garcia to be among the betting odds favorites at the US Open. Garcia finally got the majors monkey off his back by winning The Masters earlier this year, although there are some who will claim the victory is a little tainted because Dustin Johnson was forced to pull out through injury. Garcia can silence those critics by winning this one. If we are going to talk about injuries, then we need to talk about Rory McIlroy. The Irishman has been struggling for a good portion of the season with a niggling injury, and has been forced to withdraw from a few tournaments because of it. If he is fit and ready to go, though, he is always going to be considered a threat to win. Consistency is the key to winning on the PGA tour, and there are few players more consistent this season than John Rahm. The young Spaniard has been in the top 10 more often than most, and would be a good outside bet to win his first major. You also cannot count out Jordan Spieth, a young man who has already made it clear that he knows how to win these big events.
