The 2022 PGA Championship returns to Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, OK, beginning on Thursday, May 19th, and concluding on Sunday, May 22nd. Typically the strongest field of the four major tournaments, the PGA Championship will bring a stout field to a Southern Hills course that underwent extensive renovations in 2019 and will host its eighth major event.
Phil Mickelson is the defending champion after a historic performance at the Kiawah Island Ocean Course last year. Mickelson became the oldest player to win a major with a two-shot victory over Brooks Koepka and Louis Oosthuizen.
With the tournament only a week away, let’s take a look at the latest PGA Championship Odds to take home the Wanamaker Trophy.
Early Golf Betting Preview for the 2022 PGA Championship
PGA Championship Favorites
No one is hotter in the game of golf than FedEx Cup leader and world no .1 Scottie Scheffler. The 25-year-old has won four times in 2022, including his first major victory last month at Augusta. The recent surge has vaulted Scheffler up the odd board, tied with Jon Rahm as the pre-tournament favorites.
Jon Rahm (+1150)
Rahm had a quiet start to the new year but got back in the win column with a wire-to-wire victory at the Mexico Open. The victory was Rahm’s first since he won his first major last year at the U.S. Open. His Strokes Gained numbers are there for the 27-year-old to make another run at a major title.
Scottie Scheffler (+1150)
What more can be said about Scheffler’s performance over the last six months? In fourteen events, Scheffler has seven top-10 finishes, highlighted by his four victories. Scheffler’s performed in a pair of PGA Championships, with a T4 and T8.
Rory McIlroy (+1400)
The two-time PGA Championship winner aims for his fifth major title and first since 2014. McIlroy won earlier this season with his 20th PGA Tour victory at the CJ CUP @ SUMMIT and heads to Tulsa with back-to-back top-5 finishes (2nd at the Masters, 5th at Wells Fargo).
Justin Thomas (+1500)
J.T. has done everything this year but return to the winner’s circle. Justin’s lone major win came at this tournament in 2017. Six top-10 finishes in 11 events tell us that Thomas is right there on the brink of another victory, and it could happen at Southern Hills.
Collin Morikawa (+1500)
The 25-year-old already has a pair of major titles under his belt. Morikawa has played just ten events on Tour this season, with six top-10 finishes. Even though he’s yet to capture a victory on Tour this year, Morikawa took home the DP World Tour Championship in November.
Woods, Mickelson’s odds to win the PGA Championship
- Tiger Woods (+5600)
Tiger’s last PGA Championship victory came at this course in 2007. The four-time holder of the Wanamaker Trophy is a long shot to win, but you can never count out one of the greatest golfers of all time. If Woods tees it up, it’ll be just the second time he does so since his car accident kept him away from competitive golf for over 500 days.
- Phil Mickelson (+12000)
Also a longshot, Lefty hasn’t played since the Farmers Insurance Open in late January. Everyone knows by now why we haven’t seen Mickelson since, and it’s a safe bet that if he does tee it up to defend his title, he won’t be in championship form.
