Following the U.S. Open, the PGA Tour heads across the country for the playing of the 2021 Travelers Championship. TPC at River Highlands in Cromwell, CT, has hosted the tournament since 1984.

The winner of the tournament receives 500 FedEx Cup points along with north of $1.3 million of the $7.4 million purse. Dustin Johnson is the defending champion.

The tournament is statistically the second-most attended tournament on tour behind the Waste Management Open. Last season the tournament was played without fans but will allow 10,000 fans each day of the tournament this year. TPC at River Highlands

The course has been a venue for the event for 38 years and is a par-70 track that spans 6,841 yards in length. Established in 1928 by Robert J. Ross and Maurice Kearney, the course underwent an extensive redesign by Pete Dye in 1982. One more remodel in 1989 by Bobby Weed got the course to where it’s at today.

The course is the home of the lowest round ever on Tour, a 58 shot by Jim Furyk during the final round of the 2016 tournament. Patrick Cantlay held the previous course record when he shot a 60 as an amateur in 2011.

The Field

There is a strong field headed to Connecticut for this weekend’s play, highlighted by current FedEx Cup leader Patrick Cantlay. Cantlay is searching for his third win on Tour this year.

Your standard 156-man field will feature five of the world’s top 10 golfers. Joining Cantlay are Johnson, Patrick Reed, Bryson DeChambeau, and Brooks Koepka. PGA Champion Phil Mickelson, a winner here in 2001 and 2002, makes the cross country track to tee it up.

Fan-favorite Rickie Fowler returns to action after not qualifying and missing the U.S. Open. Fowler appears to be returning to form after a T8 at the PGA Championship and T11 at the Memorial Tournament.

2020 Travelers Recap

Dustin Johnson shot the lowest round of his career in the third round of the tournament, firing a 9-under, 61. The round propelled him to a one-shot victory over Kevin Streelman on the final day of the tournament.

54-hole leader Brendan Todd stumbled on Sunday, shooting a 5-over and tumbling outside the top 10. Will Gordon and Mackenzie Hughes tied for third, while Kevin Na’s solo 5th rounded out the top 5.

Betting Favorites

DeChambeau (+1100) is your early pre-tournament favorite, narrowly ahead of defending champion Johnson (+1200). DeChambeau logged a T6 at the event last year and put together an excellent showing at the U.S. Open before a back-nine meltdown on Sunday.

Cantlay (+1400) and Koepka (+1600) are near the top, with Brooks riding a T4 finish at the U.S. Open into the tournament. Cantlay had success here with his low round of 60 a decade ago and a T11 finish a year ago.

Paul Casey (+1600) is a sneaky favorite here after a strong showing (T7) at last weekend’s major. Casey has played in just three tournaments since the start of May but did well in all three, Valspar (T21), PGA Championship (T4), and U.S. Open (T7).

Other notable players near the told of the betting boards include Brian Harman (+1800), Patrick Reed (+2000), and Scottie Scheffler (+2200).
