PGA Tour 2021 Hero World Challenge Betting Analysis & Odds

The Hero World Challenge returns after a one-year hiatus due to COVID-19 to the Bahamas and the Albany Golf Course in Albany, New Province, The Bahamas. The tournament is hosted by Tiger Woods and benefits his Tiger Woods Foundation. This week’s event will be the 22nd version of the tournament.

Initially a 16-player field, the tournament was expanded in 2008 to include the most recent winners of the four major championships, the top 11 players in the OWGR, the defending champion, and two players picked by the foundation. This year the field is expanded by two more, from 18 to a 20-player field that features FedEx Cup Champions, PGA Tour stars, and some of the top international players. 

There are no FedEx Cup points awarded to the winner, but the event does offer Official World Golf Ranking points. The winner receives $1 million and usually donates the purse to a charity of their choice. Albany Golf Course

The Albany Golf Course officially opened its doors in 2000 with architectural design led by four-time major champion Ernie Els. Playing as a par-72, the course spans approximately 7,400 yards with links and desert features throughout the property. 

The course is equipped with strategic water hazards and boasts five par-5s and five par-3s. Since the tournament moved to the Bahamas, the average winning score has been near 20-under.

The Field

The field is packed with star players including, Justin Thomas, Jordan Speith, Rory McIlroy, and Collin Morikawa. Defending champion Henrik Stenson returns to defend his title and tries to become the fourth player to win this tournament more than once.

Viktor Hovland returns to action after winning the World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba at the beginning of November. The victory was Hovland’s third PGA Tour victory and second in a row at Mayakoba.

Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau will tee it up after playing in the fifth edition of The Match last Friday. Koepka won the event handily, winning four of the first eight holes in the 12-hole event.

Sam Burns makes his first start in the event and is the highest-rated player in the current FedEx Cup standings. Tony Finau, Xander Schauffele, Scottie Scheffler, Justin Rose, and Patrick Reed are other notable Tour pros participating in the event.

Betting Odds

Over at mybookie.ag, McIlroy leads the field with odds of +700. McIlroy finished T6 at the DP World Tour Championship his last time out. Following McIlroy is Race to Dubai and DP World Tour Championship winner Morikawa (+750). The Champion Golfer of the Year has nine professional wins at 24 years of age.

Thomas and Hovland follow the two favorites and can be grabbed at +1100. J.T. played just twice this fall on Tour, collecting a T18 and solo third in those starts. Hovland’s victory highlighted a fall slate that saw Hovland make the cut in all three events.

Rounding out the top-5 is Schauffele (+1400). Schauffele was a vital part of the U.S. Ryder Cup team and collected two T30s in a pair of starts this fall.
