Every major golf championship has different rules in place when it comes to filling out the field. Most of the majors are based off of the golf ranking, or they are simply by invitation only.
That is not the case with the US Open, as it is a true “open” event to amateur golfers. A total of 156 golfers will tee it up at the 2022 US Open, and there are still plenty of open spots available. Let’s have a look at our US Open Betting update.
Final Day of U.S. Open Qualifying Events | PGA Tour Betting
Qualifiers for the U.S. Open
June 6 is the final day of qualifying for the US Open, and there are nearly 900 golfers competing for the final spots. The US Open has handed out 78 exemptions for the 2022 tournament, but that still leaves plenty of open spots.
Local qualifying began back in April and continued throughout the early part of May. There are 11 final qualifying tournaments that take place, and nine of those will happen on June 6.
Golfers will all play 36 holes in one day, and the number of players that qualify will depend on the size of the tournament. This is a day that will have some big names on the golf course as PGA Tour veterans have to go through the same process to qualify for the US Open.
Big Names on the Course
There are interesting storylines at most of the tournaments taking place on June 6, but most golf fans are drawn to names that they know. Some tournaments will have more familiar faces than others, and that could set up for some terrific drama.
In Jupiter, Florida, Rickie Fowler and Matthew Wolff will be teeing it up for a chance to qualify for the US Open. Fowler is looking to play in his 13th US Open, while Wolff nearly won the 2020 event.
At the Springfield Country Club in Ohio, Danny Woodhead is looking to make it to the US Open after a successful career in the NFL. Woodhead will be joined on the course by Troy Merrit, Brandt Snedeker, and others.
Columbus, Ohio, might have the most loaded field out of the nine events on June 6, and there isn’t enough room for all of the big names to advance. The group of veteran names on the PGA include Zach Johnson, Luke Donald, Jason Dufner, and Rafa Cabrera Bello.
Of course, some of the top HS and college golfers will also be on the courses on Monday as they look to gain some experience in the US Open.
2022 US Open Details
The 122nd US Open will take place from June 16-19 at The Country Club in Brookline, Massachusetts. The site of the US Open rotates each year, and this will be the fourth time that The Country Club will host the event, but the first time since 1988.
The par in Brookline is set at 70, and that will affect the scoring for the players in the field. Jon Rahm is the reigning champion of the US Open, having won the event in 2021.
