After the majors, there really is no bigger tournament on the PGA Tour than the Players Championship. Once again, a stacked group of players will head to the TPC Sawgrass course in Ponte Vedra Beach Florida, looking to take home a share of the $10.5 million purse, which includes a cool $1.89 million for the winner of the event. Give the money on offer, not to mention the prestige of this tournament, which many call the fifth major, it’s no real surprise that all the biggest name in the game will be descending upon this challenging 7,189-yard Par 72 course. Let’s take a look at the golf betting favorites to win the event, after which we’ll close things out with a prediction.

Dustin Johnson (+580)

The world #1 and current FedEx Cup leader is once again the favorite to win it all this weekend. Johnson will have been disappointed to have missed the Masters through injury, but he served notice last weekend that he is back. He had a shaky opening couple of rounds at the Wells Fargo, which was probably down to rust, but he put together great rounds on Saturday and Sunday, proving that he is fit, healthy, and ready to play at his best again. It is worth mentioning that Johnson has never finished higher than 28th at this course.

Rory McIlroy (+900)

McIlroy has yet to pick up a win this season, but he does have 4 top 10 finishes to his name, as well as close to $1.5 million in earnings. While the Irishman has never won this event, he has finished in the top 10 here 3 different times, whilst falling just outside of it on another occasion, when he landed in 12th.

Jordan Spieth (+1000)

It has been an excellent start to the season for the 23-year old, as he picked up the win at the AT&T Pebble Beach, while also landing in the top 10 in 4 events. He has racked up almost $3 million in earnings so far this season, and would appear to be playing the best golf of his career right now. He will definitely be one to watch this weekend.

Sergio Garcia (+1500)

There is something to be said for momentum in this sport, and no-one has more of that right now than the Spaniard. He finally snagged the green jacket at the Masters, and is still sure to be on a bit of a high after that huge win. Whether he can use that to his benefit this weekend remains to be seen, but I expect him to be among the leaders on the final day.

Jason Day (+1600)

The defending champion at this event, and a man that you need to keep your eye on this weekend. This is especially true if he gets out to the same fast start that he did last season, taking the lead early and never looking back.While Day is certainly going to be one to watch, I think I am going to be putting my money on Jordan Spieth. He seems to be rounding into form, and I like him to get the win in Florida.
