We have finally reached the greatest week in all of the sports, a week at Augusta National. The trip down Magnolia Lane, the pimento cheese sandwiches, and the sweet tea, but that may not be the best thing we see all week. Tiger Woods could return this week for the first time in over a year and that has the golf world waiting on the edge of their seats.
Hideki Matsuyama, the defending Masters champion, is questionable coming into the week. He withdrew from the Valero Texas Open last week due to neck pain and tried to receive treatment for this next week. He will host the champions’ dinner this week and try to play and defend his title.
With the tournament coming up, let’s take a look at the updated Masters Odds and who could be putting on a green jacket by the end of the week.
Early Week Masters Tournament Update, Odds, and More
Jon Rahm +900
There have not been many changes made in the odds list heading into the week, as Jon Rahm still sits atop the odds board. With +900 odds, Rahm is the favorite to bet on this week at Augusta National. Currently the second-ranked player in the world, we have not seen Rahm play since the WGC Dell Technologies Match Play tournament.
That week, Rahm lost in the sweet 16 round but finished tied for ninth. So far this season, Rahm has four top 10 finishes. He came close to a victory at the Sentry Tournament of Champions as he finished in second place.
Rahm would be the third Spaniard to win a green jacket, the most recent since Sergio Garcia. Seve Ballesteros was a two-time Masters champion, winning in 1980 and 1983.
Last year was a true breakout year for Rahm but the flare has not been built yet this season. Rahm finished in a tie for fifth last year at The Masters, at six-under-par.
Jordan Spieth +1200
The former Masters champion is set to return after a slow week in his home state for the Valero Texas Open. Spieth won The Masters in 2015 breaking onto the scene in his breakout season. Spieth won in 2015 by four shots over Phil Mickelson at 18-under-par. At the time, Spieth had tied Tiger Woods for the lowest four-round total score in tournament history.
Since his 2015 breakout season, Spieth has struggled. He has not been able to find his consistent swing and if the long putts don’t fall, Spieth could be in trouble.
The good thing about Spieth is that he plays very well at certain courses. Pebble Beach and Augusta National are two courses that Spieth always plays phenomenal at. He is looking for his second green jacket, one that he hoped to have in 2016.
Collin Morikawa +1200
Collin Morikawa shares the +1200 odds with Jordan Spieth. Morikawa is one of the young rising stars on the PGA Tour, as he has won two majors already in his young career. Don’t look now, but Morikawa’s numbers are similar to Tiger Woods.
Morikawa is one of the most consistent ball strikers on the PGA Tour, which would suit well this week at Augusta National. He has played in seven events this season with three top 10 finishes. Morikawa would be a great player to bet on this week.
Tiger Woods +5000
There is no confirmation yet, but Tiger Woods is preparing as if he would play in this year’s Masters tournament. It would be his first tournament since the 2020 Masters when it was played in November. In early 2021, Woods was involved in a single-car crash, leaving him to miss over a year of golf.
What a special week it would be to see Woods return to play and if he were to compete again. It would be an amazing thing to see and it truly would be good for the game of golf.
