Horse Racing Odds & Picks for December 12th

  • When: Saturday, Dec. 12

Fair Grounds Racetrack

  • Louisiana Champions Day Turf Stakes – 1 1/16 miles turf – $100,000

At least seven horses are likely to run in the Louisiana Champions Day Turf Stakes on Saturday. Offspring, trained by Joe Sharp, could go off the favorite. Sharp is one of the most well-regarded trainers at the Fair Grounds in New Orleans.

  • Louisiana Champions Day Sprint Stakes – 6 furlongs dirt – $100,000

Dallas Stewart trained Classy John has a real shot of going off the chalk in the Champions Day Sprint Stakes. The Songandaprayer sired gelding won the Louisiana Futurity in 2018. Second choice money could fall to Yankee Seven trained by Steve Margolis.

  • Louisiana Champions Day Classic – 1 1/8 miles dirt – $150,000

Saturday’s Louisiana Champions Day Classic figures to attract eight horses. Freedom Fi, Social Afleet, Grand Luwegee, Sydster, Just Lively, Mageez, Shang, and Underpressure will all try for the winner’s share of the $150,000 purse.

Gulfstream Park

  • Grade 3 Harlan’s Holiday Stakes – 1 1/16 miles dirt – $100,000

Phat Man, Quenane, Sleepy Eyes Todd and Tax are likely to enter the starting gate for the Grade 3 Harlan’s Holiday. Phat Man finished second in last year’s running behind War Story.

  • Grade 3 Sugar Swirl Stakes – 6 furlongs dirt – $100,000

Right now, Cinnabunny, Reagan’s Edge, Aunt Nadine, and Golden Ami are signed on to run in the Sugar Swirl. If that happens, expect one of the most competitive sprint races of the year.

  • Grade 3 Rampart Stakes – 1 mile dirt – $100,000

Letruska figures to go off the chalk in the Grade 3 Rampart on Dec. 12. The Fausto Gutierrez trained runner last raced in the Grade 2 Beldame, finishing fourth behind Dunbar Road, Point of Honor and Horologist. This is a big step down in class for the Grade 3 Shuvee Stakes runner. Letruska has 2 wins from 3 races at Gulfstream, making her a possible odds on favorite to take the Rampart if she goes.

  • Grade 2 Ft. Lauderdale Stakes – 1 1/8 miles turf – $200,000

Factor This, Somelikeithotbrown, Analyze It, and Hallady are all scheduled to run in the Grade 2 Ft. Lauderdale. Like the Sugar Swirl Stakes, if all four top class runners go in the Ft. Lauderdale, we should see an ultra-competitive event. Halladay, Sometlikeithotbrown, and Factor This all like to run near the lead, which means Analyze It could go off the favorite if trainer Chad Brown enters the Point of Entry 5-year-old sired horse.
