Horse Racing Odds & Picks for January 9th and 10th Races

Aqueduct Racetrack – Saturday, January 9

  • Say Florida Sandy Stakes – 7 furlongs dirt – $100,000

Arthur’s Hope, T Loves a Fight, and Aveenu Malcainu finished first, second, and third in last year’s Say Florida Sandy Stakes. Since all three runners remain active, don’t be surprised if they show up in the starting gate for the 2021 version.

Gulfstream Park – Saturday, January 9

  • Grade 3 Tropical Turf – 1 mile turf – $100,000

Some good horses will sign up for the Tropical Turf on Saturday, including last year’s winner, Tusk. No doubt, Tusk will get some looks. Ride a Comet could go off at even money or worse, though. The Mark Casse trainee won the Grade 2 Kennedy Road at Woodbine in his last. Before that victory, he won  the Grade 2 Del Mar Derby.

Santa Anita Park – Saturday, January 9

  • Grade 3 Las Cienegas – 6 furlongs turf – $100,000

Eight horses may try for the winner’s share in the Grade 3 Las Cienegas. Neil Drysdale trained Oleksandra and Richard Mandella charge Jolie Olympica should battle for favoritism. Bohemian Bourbon, trained by Mike McCarthy, has an underdog’s shot.

  • Grade 2 La Canada Stakes – 1 1/16 miles dirt – $200,000

Some of the best fillies and mares training at the Great Race Place will enter the starting gate for the weekend’s top event. Bob Baffert saddles Fighting Mad and Message. John Shirreff’s puts the saddle on Hard Not to Love, and Mike McCarthy will enter a couple, Stellar Sound and Shanenus. Proud Emma, trained by Peter Miller, could go off the chalk. She beat Stellar Sound and Message in the Grade 3 Bayakoa in her last.

Aqueduct Racetrack – Sunday, January 10

  • Rego Park Stakes – 6 ½ furlongs dirt – $100,000

The Rego Park Stakes is for 3-year-old colts. Expect the best sophomore sprinters in New York to enter the starting gate for what should be a highly competitive race. Make sure to spend some time handicapping the Rego Park before making your bets.

Santa Anita Park – Sunday, January 10

  • Kalookan Queen Stakes – 6 ½ furlongs – $75,000

Right now, the only runner that is probable for the Kalookan Queen is Chilean bred La Buena Vida. Don’t expect her to enter the starting gate alone, though. The purse for the Kalookan Queen is awfully sweet and there are plenty of 4+ fillies and mares on the grounds at Santa Anita that can win the race. Like with the Rego Park Stakes, don’t bet before handicapping.

Have a great week!
