Top Horse Racing Picks for Fonner Park

Race 7 – 7:12 pm ET – 6 Furlongs Dirt – $7,100 Starter Allowance

Trainer David Kassen has a couple in this race. The better of the 2 is 5/2 morning line Horse Racing Odds chalk Shady Lane. The 4-year-old filly came over from Turf Paradise and proceeded to win a $10K optional claimer by a neck at 4 furlongs on Feb. 22. She followed that up with a win at this level on March 6. Can she make it 3 in a row? We’re counting on it.

The other Kassen runner, Ryrysweetie has a big shot for second. The 6-year-old mare has just 3 wins on her record. But, she has pocketed over $106K from 31 races. She’s a good horse to keep around because she always puts forth a hard-trying effort. Jockey Nathan Harr steps aboard.

Kinley Cash hasn’t raced since January. The 6-year-old mare has some back class. If she didn’t run for unknown trainer Dedrick Jones, she might go off the favorite. She’s worth including at the 6/1 odds.

  • Win: Shady Lane
  • Place: Ryrysweetie
  • Show: Kinley Cash

Race 8 – 7:39 pm ET – 1 Mile Dirt – $5,000 Claiming

It’s doubtful horseplayers allow Dance for Ransom to hold its 8/1 morning line Horse Racing Odds. The 5-year-old gelding runs for trainer Jeff Womochil. Although Womochil has saddled just 6 horses at the meet, he’s won with 4. Also, Ransom heads into this off a terrific win on Feb. 22 where it fought back in the stretch after getting headed.

Out of Patience takes a huge drop in class from the $10,000 claiming level to this $5,000 claimer. The 9-year-old gelding hasn’t come close in its last 5 races. Those were at Turf Paradise, a better racetrack, and at a much higher level. Trainer Marvin Johnson hasn’t won from 24 starters this year. No worries. We just need Out of Patience to finish second.

Front-runner Banjo Bill showed great speed in a 6-length win at a mile over the Fonner dirt on March 15. That happened over the mud, though, and there’s no guarantee it comes up sloppy on Monday. Plus, there’s a chance Bill bounces. We’ll make the favorite third.

  • Win: Dance for Ransom
  • Place: Out of Patience
  • Show: Banjo Bill

Race 9 – 8:06 pm ET – 6 Furlongs Dirt – $7,100 Starter Allowance

Warrior’s Lullaby couldn’t hang with morning line chalk Heisayankee at 4 furlongs. The Majestic Warrior gelding should hang with Heisayankee at 6 furlongs. There’s enough speed to set up Warrior’s Lullaby for a press and pounce win.

Turf Paradise shut down due to the coronavirus. That’s why trainer Ronnie Riggs saddles Turf runner Bandwidth at Fonner on Monday. If Bandwidth comes close to running the same races at the Nebraska track that it did at the Arizona track, the over $152K earner could get the win. Second seems more than probable.

Count N Gold heads to this after a nice ½ length win at this level going 6 ½ on March 7. The Stetson Mitchell trainee could get a sweet tracking spot behind the speed. Use in the exotics for sure.

  • Win: Warrior’s Lullaby
  • Place: Bandwidth
  • Show: Count N Gold
