Gulfstream Park Picks for Friday, April 3

Race 5 – 3:08 pm ET – 1 Mile Turf – $16,00 Starter Optional Claiming

26% at the meet winning trainer saddles 6/1 on the morning line Horse Racing Odds High Noon Rider. A winner of over $528K, Rider finished third at this level in its last. If High Noon Rider runs back to the race 2-back, everyone else will be racing for second.

Alien Invasion hasn’t run since January. There are a couple of things that make this one a solid choice. First, the gelding has 4 wins from 12 races over the Gulfstream turf. Second, the work-tab is consistent and third, Invasion might be lone speed.

Dalarna has won 3 in a row. The 7/5 morning line odds means most expect the Bobby Dibona trainee to get another victory. But both High Noon Rider and Alien Invasion are quality equines. We can’t dismiss but we can’t put on top at the underlay odds, either.

  • Win: High Noon Rider
  • Place: Alien Invasion
  • Show: Dalarna

Race 7 – 4:10 pm ET – 1 Mile Turf – $10,500 Claiming

Last out maiden winners can run well first time at this level, which is why we can’t discount Silly Notion. She broke her maiden at first asking. Sure, it was in slow time, but not a single one of her rivals are all that fast. She can take the top spot and deserves a look at 6/1.

Lemon Scat has won enough decent races at higher claiming levels to get the job done here. In these lower-level turf jaunts, it makes sense to keep it simple. 9/2 morning line Horse Racing Odds, a good turf jockey in Luca Panici, and a decent trainer in Dale Romans. Good enough for the place.

Saffie Joseph saddles Interest. The likely chalk lost by 10 lengths in her last but that was at the $25K optional claiming level. This is a big drop. Not only that but Luis Saez takes the call. She figures to be in the mix to the finish line.

  • Win: Silly Notion
  • Place: Lemon Scat
  • Show: Interest

Race 8 – 4:41 pm ET – 1 Mile Dirt– $62,500 Allowance Optional Claiming

Trainer Christophe Clement has a sneaky talented horse in the eighth. So Cunning broke her maiden at first asking and then won a $16K optional claiming race. She didn’t run particularly fast in either but she didn’t have to. Let’s put her on top. Hopefully, she keeps her 10/1 morning line odds.

Final Cut has won 3 in a row for trainer Victoria Oliver. 1 victory happened in August 2019. The other 2 happened at Keeneland and Churchill Downs last fall. No doubt, she’ll get lost in the betting. Her class could get her into the exacta.

12/1 on the morning line Bella Ciao has 2 thirds and a fourth in her last 3 races. She could plop up again for third on Friday.

  • Win: So Cunning
  • Place: Final Cut
  • Show: Bella Ciao
