Santa Anita Park resumes racing on Friday, March 27. The weather calls for partly sunny with a high of 68. That’s perfect Southern California weather. The 8-race card doesn’t present us with the best of the best at the Great Race Place but we think we’ve found a few winners. Check out top plays and Horse Racing Odds from Santa Anita Park for Friday, March 27. You can also visit our Online Racebook to place your bets on active racetracks.

Top Horse Racing Odds & Picks for Santa Anita Park

  • When: Friday, March 27 at 4:00 pm ET
  • Where: Arcadia, CA
  • Weather: Partly Sunny
  • Temperature: High 68 – Low 47

Race 3 – 5:04 ET – 1 Mile Dirt – Claiming $32,000

It doesn’t happen often but at times we can find overlay runners in short fields. At 5/2, Horse Racing Odds K P Whirlwind is an overlay in this 5-horse field on Friday. The Jeff Mullins runner broke her maiden going a mile at Los Alamitos. She ran great to finish fourth in her first race against winners at Santa Anita on Jan. 25. The work-tab doesn’t inspire much confidence, but Mullins puts blinkers on this one and she had to steady in her last. Let’s put K P Whirlwind on top.

Trafficiskillingme could take this gate-to-wire. The Cross Traffic sired 3-year-old filly won an optional claimer for $30K over Turf Paradise’s lawn in her last. She could repeat that performance over the dirt. She should offer more than the 5/1 morning line as well because horses racing at Santa Anita coming from Turf are often overlooked.

2/1 morning line second-choice Billy K has a win and 2 seconds from 4 races at a mile. Trainer Ryan Hanson is winning at 32%. Billy figures to go off the chalk in this. But her chances of winning aren’t much better than K P Whirlwind’s.

  • Win: K P Whirlwind
  • Place: Trafficiskillingme
  • Show: Billy K

Race 6 – 6:38 pm ET – 1 Mile Turf – Claiming $35,000

This is a super competitive 9-horse field. Things could set up for 6/1 on the morning line Horse Racing Odds Untouched Elegance. Trainer Richard Baltas can get them ready on the turf. He raced Elegance in a couple of turf sprints to set the 5-year-old mare up for this. That’s a 29% winning move for Baltas. Also, Untouched Elegance might be lone speed, which is a great advantage going a mile on S.A.’s turf.

The fact that Tig Tog goes first time off the claim for Vladimir Cerin makes the daughter of Dark Angel a worthy favorite. Cerin wins 30% first off the claim. But she doesn’t have much speed and unless Flying the Line goes with Untouched Elegance, the Baltas trainer should be long gone.

Kittyhawk Lass picks up 22% winning jockey Umberto Rispoli. She drops from the $40K optional claiming level and has a win and 2 seconds from 4 races at this distance. If you think the pace will be fast, consider for the win.

  • Win: Untouched Elegance
  • Place: Tig Tog
  • Show: Kittyhawk Lass

Race 8 – 7:39 pm ET – 1 Mile Turf – Maiden Special Weight $55,000

At one time, horseplayers considered Neil Drysdale to be one of the top trainers in the world. Drysdale saddled AP Indy and Fusaichi Pegasus during his career. He’s got an under the radar runner in Capital Call, a Tonalist sired 3-year-old, in the eighth. Call had a great work on March 22. Not only that but the Drysdale runner could get lost in the betting based on the 6/1 morning line odds.

Absolute Unit lost by three-quarters of a length in his last. The Peter Eurton trained colt keeps top turf rider Flavien Prat and should get a nice trip. The Eurton runner deserves to win after running too good to lose in his last couple. The odds will be lower than the 2/1 morning line Horse Racing Odds, though, which makes Unit a pass to get his picture taken.

Bob Baffert saddles Much More Halo. The More Than Ready runner finished second by a head in his last. Expect the Baffert horse to offer 8/5 to 2/1 odds. Bob wins with 27% of his runners going sprint to route. So the angle players are going to be all over this one.

  • Win: Capital Call
  • Place: Absolute Unit
  • Third: Much More Halo
