Santa Anita Park Picks for Saturday, May 30

Race 1 – 3:30 pm ET – 1 Mile Turf – $20,000 Allowance Optional Claiming

Peter Miller trained California Kook hasn’t raced since January. No worries. The Miller runner gets 31% winning jockey Flavien Prat, finished fourth in the $200,000 Cal Cup Oaks in its last, and shows decent works leading up to this.

Warrior’s Moon had no shot in the Evening Jewel Stakes. The Peter Eurton trained runner chased but failed to make up ground. Moon has a 1-0-2 record in 4 grass races and, no doubt, these are much softer than what Moon faced in the Evening Jewel.

Mike Harrington saddles 15/1 on the morning line Nocherylikemychery. The Empire Way sired filly broke her maiden in her last. Harrington wins 17% with last out maiden winners. Chery has some super works heading into this. Consider for all slots on your exotic tix.

  • Win: California Kook
  • Place: Warrior’s Moon
  • Show: Nocherylikemychery

Race 6 – 6:00 pm ET – 7 Furlongs Dirt – $40,000 Allowance Optional Claiming

This race seems to set up for 7/2 on the morning line She’s a Dime. The Doug O’Neil trained 4-year-old Eskenderaya sired filly has 2 wins, a second, and a third in her last 4 races. Flavien Prat takes the call and She’s a Dime shows two works since her last race on May 2.

Rather Nosy could be tough to beat. Trainer Jack Carava has won at 25% at the meet. Not only that but this one has run some fast races at this level. Also, there doesn’t appear to be a ton of speed singed onto this.

8/5 chalk Eternal Endeavour could get her picture taken. But do you want to play a 6-year-old mare running for a 13% winning trainer at underlay odds to win? We don’t.

  • Win: She’s a Dime
  • Place: Rather Nosy
  • Show: Eternal Endeavour

Race 7 – 6:30 pm ET – 1 1/8 Miles Turf– $100,000 Grade 3 Honeymoon Stakes

Paddy Gallagher has saddled six horses at Santa Anita. He’s won with 2 of them. Red Lark could help Paddy make it 3-of-7. The Ireland based runner failed big time in her first in the states. But after that horrible performance, she improved to break her maiden by a nose. The fifth place finish in the $75,000 China Doll in her last doesn’t worry us. Why? She gets 1/8 mile more to work with here while top turf jock Drayden Van Dyke takes the call. We’re taking a shot on the 12/1 morning line runner.

Richard Mandella trained Parkour is a good horse. The Carpe Diem sired miss won her last race by 3 ¾ lengths. Mandella is careful with his equines. If he thinks she can win, we must take her seriously.

Stella Star has a win and a second in her last couple. That’s why she’s 2/1 on the morning line. Because Flavien hops aboard, she can win. We can’t endorse on top at the likely odds, though.

  • Win: Red Lark
  • Place: Parkour
  • Show: Stella Star
