Thistledown Horse Racing Picks for Saturday, June 27

Race 6 – 3:03 pm ET – 5 ½ Furlongs Dirt – $23,000 Allowance

No way Fancy Pants holds the 8/1 morning line odds. Trainer Robert Gorham is winning at 29% at the meet. Also, Fancy Pants has won 3 in a row. The 6-year-old mare’s last race was her best. She rated, took over before the stretch, and ran off to a 5 ½ length win. Even if the odds drop in half to 4/1, she’s the top play.

Lady C could surprise. Her odds should drift below the 6/1 morning line because Tom Amoss trains. The San Pablo sired 4-year-old filly heads to Thistledown after racing at Oaklawn Park. She might be the classiest filly in this field.

The entry, Jose the E F Five and J P’s Gladys, have excellent records at Thistle. E F Five is 1-for-1. Gladys has a 4-4-3 record from 15 starts. Both have a shot to get into the trifecta.

  • Win: Fancy Pants
  • Place: Lady C
  • Show: Jose the E F Five / J P’s Gladys

Race 7  – 3:35 pm ET – 1 1/8 Miles Dirt – $75,000 Daniel Stearns Cleveland Gold Cup

Timothy Hamm trained Liberate is 3/1 on the morning line. Even if the chalk’s odds drop to 8/5, the 3-year-old gelding is hard to look past in this field. Liberate should take the lead, run away from the competition, and go right to the winner’s circle.

Flat Out sired It’s Official. That alone makes this one worth a long look. It’s Official goes for Robert Gorham. The top trainer at Thistledown, Robert could have a huge Saturday. If Liberate can’t hang at the distance, It’s Official figures to pick up the pieces.

Betchaiwill looks fast enough to stick with Liberate. But it’s doubtful the William’s Kitten sired runner is as classy as Liberate or It’s Official. We’ll definitely use because this could be a merry-go-round race, though.

  • Win: Liberate
  • Place: Flat Out
  • Show: Betchaiwill

Race 8 – 4:22 pm ET – 1 1/8 Miles Dirt – $500,000 G3 Ohio Derby

It’s hard to understand why Established is 30/1 on the morning line. The Michael Stidham trained runner has yet to break his maiden, but look at the speed ratings? He’s run faster than any other horse in this race. Not only that, but Twin Creeks Racing bought him for $400,000 and Constitution sired him. We’d back this guy to win at 5/1, much less 30/1.

Bill Mott trained Sprawl is another overlay with a shot. At 15/1, Sprawl has the looks of a big time upset candidate. Like Established, the City Zip sired runner has run faster than most of his competition. Jockey Paco Lopez figures to give Sprawl the perfect trip behind the speed.

Tom Amoss trained Dean Martini is 20/1 on the morning line. Although we make him third, we most definitely will use the Cairo Prince sired gelding in all 3 slots on our trifecta ticket.

  • Win: Established
  • Place: Sprawl
  • Show: Dean Martini
