Grade 3 Doubledogdare Stakes – 1 1/16 miles dirt – 4 year old fillies & mares

Last year, trainer Todd Pletcher used this race to springboard Malaathat to a fantastic summer and then a win in the Breeders’ Cup Distaff. Pletcher saddles contender Green Up on Friday.

Brad Cox trained Interstatedaydream will challenge Green Up for favoritism. Bill Mott saddles a contender in Frost Point. Connections for Traverse, Moon Swag, Music Street, Hidden Connection, and Shotgun Hottie, also plan on running.

Saturday, April 22
Keeneland Racecourse

Grade 3 Ben Ali Stakes – 1 3/16 miles dirt – 4 year olds & up

Todd Pletcher might saddle the chalk in the Ben Ali Stakes. Pioneer of Medina struggled in the New Orleans Classic, but won the race before, the Grade 3 Mineshaft.

Skippylongstocking, trained by Saffie Joseph, will also attract plenty of action.

Kenny McPeek trained Rattle N Roll, Zozos from the Brad Cox barn, Mr. Impossible, Call Me Fast, Happy American, and Trademark should enter the starting gate.

 

Grade 2 Elkhorn Stakes – 1 ½ miles turf – 4 year olds & up

Chad Brown trained Highest Honors will attract action even though the last victory came in February 2022 and it came in an allowance event.

Once handicappers look pat Highest Honors, they figure to back one of the Kenny McPeek trained runners, Tiz the Bomb or Camp Hope. Scarlet Fusion will get some play. Another Mystery, English Conqueror, and Alex Joon will go off at long shot odds.

Oakland Park

Grade 2 Oaklawn Handicap – 1 1/18 miles dirt – 4 year olds & up

So far, only four runners have committed to the Oaklawn Handicap. But even if no other horses enter, the race should be dynamite.

Michael Stidham trained Proxy, Last Samurai from the D. Wayne Lukas barn, Kenny McPeek trained Classic Causeway and Charge It trained by Todd Pletcher are four of the most talented runners in North America. Last Samurai projects as the chalk.

Santa Anita Park

Grade 3 Kona Gold Stakes – 6 ½ furlongs dirt – 4 year olds & up

Eleven horses are likely to go in the Kona Gold Stakes. Bob Baffert trained runners Armagnac and Murray should go off close to favoritism.

The outright chalk will be Forbidden Kingdom trained by Richard Mandella. Other runners include Positivity, Straight No Chaser, Anarchist, Spirit of Makena, and Brickyard Ride.

 

Grade 2 California Stakes – 1 1/8 miles dirt – 4 year olds & up

Pegasus World Cup second place finisher and Bob Baffert trained Defunded headlines what’s likely to be a full California Stakes field. Baffert also plans on sending Hopper from the gate.

Tripoli, Royal Ship, Parnelli, Midnight Mammoth, and Kiss Today Goodbye will attract dollars. Among those runners, Tripoli could be the value horse. So pay attention to the money that lands on the John Sadler trained runner.
