Top Stakes Races for the Week

  • When: Saturday, Dec. 4

Aqueduct Racetrack

  • Grade 3 Go for Wand – 1 mile dirt – $250,000

So far, just four horses are confirmed for the Go for Wand. Chad Summers trained Truth Hurts, Sharp Starr from the Horacio de Paz barn, Lady Rocket trained by Brad Cox, and Simon Callaghan trained Bella Vita. Among the four, Lady Rocket and Bella Vita will vie for favoritism.

  • Grade 2 Demoiselle Stakes – 1 1/8 miles dirt – $250,000

At least six runners are likely to enter the starting gate for the Grade 2 Demoiselle Stakes. Chad Brown trained Distinctlypossible could go off the chalk. Although she has yet to win, one of her two second place finishes happened in the Grade 1 Alcibiades. Todd Pletcher puts the saddle on Nest while Cristophe Clement will enter last out maiden winner Tap the Faith. Magic Circle, from the Rudy Rodriguez barn, finished fourth in the Grade 1 Frizette.

  • Grade 2 Remsen Stakes – 1 1/8 miles dirt – $250,000

Seven of the most highly regarded 3-year-olds in training will enter the starting gate for the 2021 Remesen Stakes. Todd Pletcher hopes to saddle two, Mo Donegal and Overstep, the second-place finisher in the Sleepy Hollow. Chad Brown trained Zandon was much the best in his maiden victory in October. Other runners include Who Hoo Thats Me, Unbridled Bomber, Mr Jefferson and Eloquist.

  • Grade 1 Cigar Mile Stakes – 1 mile dirt – $750,000

The weekend’s top graded race should attract at least ten runners. Of the ten, Steve Asmussen trained Snapper Sinclair, Ginobili from the Richard Baltas barn, Plainsman trained by Brad Cox, and Code of Honor trained by Shug McGaughey will battle for favoritism. An underdog often wins the Cigar Mile. So make sure to handicap each horse before deciding on the winner.

Los Alamitos Racecourse

  • Grade 1 The Starlet – 1 1/16 miles dirt – $300,000

Bob Baffert puts the saddle on a couple of runners in The Starlet. Both Eda and Grace Adler will attract action. Of the two, Grace Adler should go off more favored. The Curlin sired miss won the Grade 1 Del Mar Debutante in September.
