Will Rogers Downs Picks for Wednesday, April 15

Race 8 – 5:45 pm ET – 6 Furlongs Dirt – $25,080 Allowance

This allowance could set up for 5/1 on the morning line Horse Racing Odds Tavner. In the gelding’s first after running in November, it finished seventh by 1 ½ lengths as a 7/1 shot. Tavner figures to get a cozy spot behind speedsters Word to the Wise and Ninethirtyturbo.

Word to the Wise took the lead in its first against winners. It failed to hold own and finished third. On Thursday, the Scott Garrison trained runner could lie a head off Ninethirtyturbo before trying to go past that one for the win. If Ninethirtyturbo doesn’t go for the lead, Word to the Wise could be loose on the front end.

Ninethirtyturbo shows up as the chalk. Kari Craddock trained this one to an 8 ¼ maiden score in its last. The speed rating was stellar, and Craddock gelded to ensure Turbo keeps its mind on business. But Kari is 0-for-39 with last out maiden winners. That makes Ninethirtyturbo tough to back at the expected odds.

  • Win: Tavner
  • Place: Word to the Wise
  • Show: Ninethirtyturbo

Race 9 – 6:15 pm ET – 1 1/16 Miles Dirt – $17,050 Handicap

Eagle Pass could turn his form around. The 5-year-old ran its last 5 races over the all-weather at Turfway Park. That’s not the Super Saver sired gelding’s favorite surface. Eagle Pass has a couple of wins and a couple of thirds from 5 races at the 1 1/16 mile distance. If the form does turnaround, expect this one to pay close to its 4/1 morning line because others look better on paper.

Sorryaboutnothing might take the lead. There doesn’t appear to be much other speed except, maybe, Eagle Pass. If the top choice does go to the front after they break from the gate, Sorry should be in the perfect position to overtake the expected winner. Consider for the top spot if the odds drift up from the 7/2 morning line.

No way Gentrified doesn’t offer less than 2/1. The morning line Horse Racing Odds chalk has raced in higher level events and has 10 wins from 42 runs. But the Malibu Moon sired gelding has never won at this distance and others in here will offer better odds.

  • Win: Eagle Pass
  • Place: Sorryaboutnothing
  • Show: Gengrified

Race 10 – 6:45 pm ET – 6 Furlongs Dirt – $7,500 Claiming

Trainer Danny Pish is 0-for-3 at Will Rogers Downs. Pish does have a couple of second-place finishes from those 3 runners, though. Golden Lullabye, Pish’s runner in the tenth, has raced well enough to take the victory on Wednesday. Lane Luzzi takes the call. Others in here will get some play. So, fingers-crossed, Lullabye keeps the 4/1 morning line odds.

24% winning trainer Scott Young saddles Tayla, an 8/1 morning line Horse Racing Odds choice that blasted her competition by 5 lengths in a $7,500 claimer in her first for Young. Scott put a nice work into this one on April 6. If she repeats the last performance, she can get her picture taken. So, don’t discount for the win.

Love and Lemons takes a steep drop from $15,000 claimers to the $7,500 level. The Clinton Stuart runner is 8/1 on the morning line and has raced well enough in her last 3 to move forward. A top 3 finish is not out of the question.

  • Win: Golden Lullabye
  • Place: Tayla
  • Show: Love and Lemons
