Will Rogers Downs Horse Racing Picks for Monday, March 30

Race 4 – 3:45 pm ET – 5 ½ Furlongs Dirt – $15,000 Claiming

Recorder takes a slight move up in class from a second place in a $12.5K claiming race at Sunland in the 3-year-old gelding’s last. Recorder offers sweet 8/1 morning line odds while John Arnett has 2 wins and a third from 4 runners at WRD. Recorder can cash at big odds. On Monday, trainer Karl Broberg sends Gambler to the track. Broberg is 0-13 at Will Rogers Downs. Broberg has saddled 5 second place and 3 third-place runners, though. It’s only a matter of time before Karl, who wins at over 30% at some tracks in the U.S., gets his first victory at WRD. Consider for the win if the odds float above the 5/2 morning line Horse Racing Odds. Jazz Music went off at 2.4 to 1 in its last race. It lost by a neck. Trainer Robertino Diodoro wins 35% at the meet. Jockey Ty Kennedy has 9 wins from 24 mounts. No way this gelding doesn’t go off the favorite in this. Music could blow away this field. But the likely odds relegate this one to third.
  • Win: Recorder
  • Place: Gambler
  • Show: Jazz Music

Race 8 – 5:45 pm ET – 6 Furlongs Dirt – $15,000 Claiming

It’s rare to find a Robertino Diodoro runner that offers anything more than 3/1 on the morning line. When we do find a Diodoro that offers higher odds, we had better pay attention. Corrana En Limen is 7/2 on the morning line to win Monday’s eighth. The 4-year-old gelding bounced in its last, losing by 6 ½ lengths, after winning at this distance at Oaklawn Park on Feb. 28. 38% winning jockey Ty Kennedy rides. Corrana En Limen might have too much class for this crew. Eye Cloud takes a massive drop from a $37,000 Allowance to this $15K claimer. Trainer Tracy Norris claimed this one for $15K in a race at Assiniboia Downs and then ran Eye Cloud in the allowance. Although Norris has 1 winner from 40 starters this year, Eye Cloud could get it done if the gelding runs back to the last. Consider for the win if the price drifts above the 10/1 morning line odds. 40% at the meet winning trainer Scott Young puts the saddle on Handsome Traveler. The gelded son of Stroll cuts back in distance from a mile. Traveler should get a nice stalking trip. Depending on the pace, he’s another that could get the win money in this.
  • Win: Corrana En Limen
  • Place: Eye Cloud
  • Show: Handsome Traveler

Race 9 – 6:15 pm ET – 6 Furlongs Dirt – $26,400 Allowance

Oakie Queen must make out a good trip from post-position 12, but the 2-time winner from 3-lifetime races can most definitely do that. Queen has natural speed, which means jockey Curtis Kimes can grab the lead clear away from this field. None of Queen’s rivals should keep up. 6-year-old mare Between the Arches has shown decent speed in her last few races. She can either duel with Oakie Queen or lay off. At 8/1 Horse Racing Odds, we must consider for the win. But Oakie Queen looks like a standout on paper. So, we’ll place Arches second. Bright Bling hasn’t raced since November. The Scott Garrison runner has shown a decent, consistent work tab, though. Garrison has saddled 5 runners this year, all at Will Rogers Downs. He has 2 third-place finishes. Why not third again?
  • Win: Oakie Queen
  • Place: Between the Arches
  • Show: Bright Bling
