Will the New York Yankees live up to their status as prohibitive favorites to win the American League pennant in 2021? Could a loaded Chicago White Sox ballclub or dangerous Minnesota Twins team beat out the Yanks for the AL crown this coming season?

Will New York and Chicago take a back seat to another AL pennant hopeful like Toronto, reigning American League champion Tampa Bay or will the still, talent-laden Houston Astros beat out all of the aforementioned favorites to win the AL crown this coming campaign?

The Yankees are favored to win the AL pennant at +220 despite finishing seven games behind Tampa Bay in the AL East last season. New York’s handful of offseason additions were modest, but the Yankees did re-sign several of their own players, starting with second baseman DJ LaMahieu.

Chicago is a +350 pick to come out of the American League after finishing second to Minnesota in the AL Central. The division-winning Twins are +700 and expected to contend after finishing with the second most victories in the AL last season. Toronto finished one game behind the Yankees in the AL East, but eight games behind Tampa Bay. Do the Blue Jays stand a chance of beating out both, the Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays in in the AL East?

Tampa Bay is offering a ton of value as a +800 pick despite beating out New York in the AL East by seven games before going on to claim the AL pennant last season. Whether you love or loathe the Astros, Houston looks like a team offering plenty of value at +900 and one that could challenge for the AL pennant despite losing star outfielder George Springer. Oakland is a value-packed +900 pick after winning the AL West by seven games over Houston. Cleveland is a bankroll-boosting +1600 pick after finishing tied with Chicago in the AL Central, one game behind Minnesota.

• Boston Red Sox +2500
• Seattle Mariners +4000
• Kansas City Royals +5000
• Detroit Tigers +5000

• Baltimore Orioles +6000

Every team in this group is going to have to play far, far above what is expected after finishing either last or next to last in their respective divisions. I’m not expecting any of these teams to challenge for a playoff berth in 2021 and definitely not the AL Pennant.

Prediction

I’m going with Tampa Bay and Houston as my top  two picks to win the AL pennant in 2021! The Rays might have moved 2018 AL Cy Young winner Blake Snell, but Tampa Bay is a franchise full of young and talented players. The same goes for a Houston Astros franchise that has one of the best farm systems in all of baseball.
