MLB AL Betting Picks for July 21 and July 22

A couple of interleague matchups dot my MLB AL betting picks for this Saturday and this Sunday. On Saturday, July 21, after Houston battles the L.A. Angels, the San Francisco Giants head across the bay to take on the Oakland Athletics. After Sundays matchup between the Chicago White Sox and Seattle, the Mets leave Queens and head to the Bronx to battle the New York Yankees. Saturday, July 21

Houston Astros at L.A. Angels

The Astros start the best pitcher in their rotation, Justin Verlander, on Saturday. Verlander’s 2.29 ERA and .84 WHIP are fantastic. What isn’t overly impressive is his 9 and 5 record. Two games ago versus the Chicago White Sox, he looked great. He also looked great in his start right after beating Chicago, a Houston win over the Oakland Athletics.Verlander didn’t look good at all in his last start. He allowed 5 earned runs off 6 hits in 6 innings. That against the Detroit Tigers. The Angels bat .132 against Verlander, though. Should he bounce back with a good effort on Saturday?I think so. San Francisco Giants at Oakland A’s

The Giants send Madison Bumgarner to the mound in their Bay Area battle with the Oakland A’s. Bumgarner has a decent 2.90 ERA. What’s more important is that the Giants are 4 and 1 straight up in Bumgarner’s last 5 starts.Another advantage to Bumgarner and the Giants in this matchup on Saturday is that Oakland only bats .200 versus Madison. The Giants are only 4 games behind the Dodgers in the NL West. Chicago White Sox at Seattle Mariners

Mariners starting pitcher Marco Gonzalez is one of the reasons Seattle has become a true challenge to Houston’s dominance in the AL West. Gonzalez has a 3.41 ERA, a 10 and 5 record, and a 1.16 WHIP.He should have no trouble taming White Sox hitters. What really makes the case for Seattle to beat Chicago on Sunday is that the Mariners are 8 and 2 straight up in Gonzalez’ last 10 starts. New York Mets at New York Yankees

Mets at Yankees is this weekend’s top interleague MLB matchup. On Sunday, the Mets start ace Jacob deGrom. deGrom’s 1.68 ERA is incredibly intimidating. He backs up the great ERA with a .97 WHIP.But, look at how the Mets perform when deGrom heads to the mound. Sure, NYM is 2 and 0 in deGrom’s last couple of starts. That’s with Jacob pitching 8 innings. It was also against Tampa Bay and Philadelphia.Before the 2 and 0 streak, the Mets had gone 1 and 7 in deGrom’s previous 8 starts.
