Current MLB Betting Odds: American League and National League Division Leaders for 2024 Season

The Major League Baseball regular season is right around the corner. Today, we wanted to take a look at the updated MLB betting analysis of the currently American League and National League divisional leaders, according to the latest odds:

MLB Betting Analysis of the Current American League and National League Division Leaders | Baseball Betting Analysis for the MLB Season

New York Yankees +170

The Baltimore Orioles do not agree with the Yankees being the favorites to start the season. This could be the biggest difference we see from the oddsmakers. They loved the addition of Juan Soto and even Marcus Stroman, but the Yankees finished fourth last season. Now, Aaron Judge and Gerrit Cole are likely to miss the start of the season. We do not like the Yankees at +170 to win the American League. If they get too far down, they will struggle to play catch up with how competitive that division will be.

Minnesota Twins -115

Even at -115, this seems like the best bet to make of all the divisional winners. This is more about the rest of the division than it is Minnesota. Sure, we like the Twins team, and they have a nice compilation of players. The Twins were one of the best pitching teams a season ago. But, Minnesota did lose Sonny Gray and also Jorge Polanco is no longer in the lineup. But, until we see Cleveland or Detroit really take the leap to compete at the top of the division, Minnesota it is!

Houston Astros +100

The Houston Astros are a team the league just cannot get rid of. The Astros have been at or near the top of the American League West for years. That makes the Texas Rangers and Seattle Mariners annoyed for sure. The Rangers got the last laugh a season ago, eliminating Houston in the postseason, and winning the World Series. But, at even money, not sure we like those odds enough for Houston here. Texas is going to be loaded again, and Seattle seems ready to make the jump.

Atlanta Braves -240

The Atlanta Braves at -240 is probably about right, but with Zach Wheeler and Aaron Nola coming back to Philadelphia, along with the offense they have – this is not a bet we are comfortable making. The Braves are going to be loaded, do not get us wrong. The offense was the best in the league a season ago, and likely will be again, but the Phillies are getting overlooked here.

St. Louis Cardinals +175

At +175, for a team with the roster the St. Louis Cardinals have, this may not be a bad bet to make. But, honestly, neither is the Chicago Cubs odds at +190. Both teams are annoyed at how last season ended. The Cardinals were dead last. They added starting pitching, but how good is that starting pitching? Can Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenado get back to being two of the best hitters in the National League? Will youngster Masyn Winn and Jordan Walker be able to take the step up and help lead this team in a big way? Lots of questions, but also lots of talent.

Los Angeles Dodgers -450

Adding Shohei Ohtani was one thing, then grabbing Yamamoto and Glasnow? This Dodgers team would have the biggest collapse in all of Major League Baseball if they did not win the National League West. The Padres appear to have lost some talent; with Juan Soto gone. The Giants are going to be rebuilding. Can Arizona regain the magic that saw them eliminate the Dodgers a season ago? At -450, that is a lot of juice, but the Dodgers should run away with the National League West.

2022 Division Leaders

Now that we’ve passed the All-Star Break and we’re heading into the month of August, we’re heading into the stretch run of the Major League Baseball season.

In looking at all of the divisional races, it’s clear that there are three divisions where teams are running away with things. Let’s take a look at those three divisions so you can continue with your betting against the American League Division Odds and the National League Division Odds.

Major League Baseball 2022 Division Leaders that Are Running Away from the Rest | AL & NL Betting Analysis

American League East

Heading into tonight’s action, the New York Yankees hold an 11.5-game lead over the Toronto Blue Jays. The Yankees have had a huge lead since early in the season, and unless they have some massive injury issues, the Yankees should continue to control the division.

The Tampa Bay Rays and the Blue Jays have the ability to make a run at the Yankees, but that lead will be hard to overcome.

The Yankees have one of the most powerful lineups in baseball. Aaron Judge is having an MVP season. Even though he just went on the injured list, Giancarlo Stanton has been tremendous as well.

The starting pitching has been superb, and the Yankees always seem to have one of the best bullpens in baseball.

The Yankees have the best record in baseball, and we don’t see anyone catching them at this point.

American League West

The Houston Astros have proven to everyone once again that they can win without cheating. They are currently leading the Seattle Mariners by ten games and the Texas Rangers by 20 games.

Led by the ageless wonder Justin Verlander, the Astros pitching staff has been one of the best in baseball. Even though Verlander is the only big name on the staff, the others have done a tremendous job all season.

Yordan Alvarez has been big this season, Jose Altuve is always steady, and the Astros have had contributions from many others. If we had to place a bet right now, we’d say that the Astros and Yankees would meet in the ALCS.

Even though Seattle has some rising, young superstars, we don’t think that they have enough in the tank to catch the Astros this season.

National League West

The favorite to win the World Series prior to the season, the Los Angeles Dodgers, have lived up to the hype and are running away with the National League West.

With an 11.5 game lead over the San Diego Padres, and a 17.5 game lead over the San Francisco Giants, the Dodgers should run away with the NL West.

Even with Max Muncy having an awful season, the Dodgers have still managed to have a great offense. The pitching staff has been good, and even though the closer situation has been murky, the Dodgers still continue to win games.

Even though the Padres will get Fernando Tatis, Jr. back soon, and they’ve been rumored to be in on some big names at the trade deadline, we don’t think that they can catch the Dodgers.

They’ll just be playing for a better wild card spot. The NL West will once again belong to Los Angeles, and they’ll win by a landslide.
