MLB 2017 Early Picks & Season Predictions

Written by on March 29, 2017

The clock is ticking down towards opening day in MLB, and while every team in the league is sitting with the same record right now, that is going to very quickly change. Before a ball is thrown or a bat is swung in anger, we have teams that we believe will soar this season, while we also believe that we already know which teams will see their season end before it really gets going. There are sure to be a couple of surprise teams along the way, but whether that can play their way into a postseason spot remains to be seen. It’s much too early to be making MLB betting predictions, but I’m going to do it anyway, starting off by predicting each division.

MLB 2017 Early Picks & Season Predictions

AL East

This looks as though it is likely going to be a 2-horse race between the Boston Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays, although the Baltimore Orioles might just have something to say about that. It looks to me as though the Red Sox might be ready to make a championship winning run this season, which is why I believe they will come out on top with 95 wins.

AL Central

The Cleveland Indians came ever so close to winning it all last season, and losing as they did may have them coming into this season with a bit of a chip on their shoulder. They ae the class of the division, and perhaps even the AL, and should win it going away. Would not be surprised to see them crack the 100-win mark.

AL West

This has the potential to be the tightest division in baseball, with 3 or 4 teams in with a shot. We can count out the Oakland A’s, and the LA Angels need a lot of things to go right to win it, which leaves us with the Astros, Mariners, and Rangers. The first of these 3 teams to get to 90 wins could win it, and my money is on the Houston Astros.

NL East

It seems pretty clear that the Washington Nationals are the team to beat in this division, as they have a pitching rotation to die for. The New York Mets may push them all the way, and the Miami Marlins have a chance to be a bit of a dark horse, but at the end of the day, I don’t see either of those two stealing the division from the Nats.

NL Central

It’s never easy to defend a championship, and you can bet that the Chicago Cubs are going to be taking he field sporting a big bullseye. This is a team that just keeps winning though, and I don’t see them having any sort of World Series hangover. They will win the Central again, and will have the best record in baseball.

NL West

This is another division that appears to be a 2-horse race, but which could have a dark horse sitting in there, too. The San Francisco Giants and the LA Dodgers will likely battle it out for top spot, but the Colorado Rockies may have finally added some pitching to go with all that offense. I like the Giants to win the West, but in a close fought battle.
