Major League Baseball on track to start this season this Thursday, July 23

If last week proved anything, it’s that professional baseball players can it going whenever they feel like it.

This is particularly true for the two favorites to win the World Series, the Los Angeles Dodgers on the New York Yankees.

Both teams rocked it in summer camp games. The Dodgers dominated the Diamondbacks 9-2 on Sunday. The Yankees blasted the New York Mets 9-3 on Saturday.

Both the Dodgers and Yankees look solid heading into the 60-game 2020 MLB Regular Season. Los Angeles especially looks tight. Their starters may have an easier time this season than New York’s.

Los Angeles’ top two starters, Clayton Kershaw and Walker Buehler, are one-hundred percent. The Yankees’ third starter in their rotation, Masahiro Tanaka, got some bullpen work over the weekend for the first time since getting hit by a line drive.

After Gerrit Cole, NYY could suffer to find another ace. James Paxton is the obvious choice, but Paxton’s WHIP in 2019 was 1.28. That’s .08 above 1.20, what most baseball fans consider a solid ace WHIP.

Expect lots of runs, lots and lots of runs, this MLB Season

Then again, no pitcher, not Paxton, not Kershaw, not Beuhler, not even Cole could have a stellar season. This year is unique in the sense that pitchers will go into the season cold.

Gerritt Cole faces off against the Nationals’ Max Scherzer on Thursday. Neither will get a summer camp training start in. Both will throw off bullpen sessions.

That’s not ideal. Pitchers take time to get into a rhythm. They don’t have that time this season.

Over the weekend, the Dodgers and Yankees weren’t the onlysquads that racked up runs. On Saturday, the Phillies beat the Nats 7-2. Cleveland and Pittsburgh, neither an offensive powerhouse in 2019, combined for 8 runs.

Then on Sunday, the White Sox and Cubs combined for 9 runs. Should bettors think about overs? It might be a good idea to see what happens on Thursday and Friday and then decide.

Baseball back this week

No matter your plan to navigate the 60-game regular season, whether you will concentrate on over/unders, moneylines, or run lines, rejoice.

Baseball is back and the world is a better place because of it.

Have a great week!
