Best MLB Odds & Picks for Friday Betting Action

Written by on June 29, 2017

You might want to get in some good betting options around baseball on Friday. Why? Because free agency in the NBA and NHL both begin on Saturday, so your attention might be diverted on all that player movement. Here are three Game 1 predictions for Friday with the latest MLB odds.

Best MLB Odds & Picks for Friday Betting Action

New York Yankees at Houston Astros

When: Friday, June 30th, 2017 Where: Minute Maid Park, 8:10 PM ET TV: MLBN (out-of-market only) / YES (New York) / ROOTSW (Houston) Radio: WFAN 660 (New York) / KBME 790 (Houston) Stream: MLB.tv MLB Odds: Houston at -150 The pitching matchup favors Houston behind Cy Young candidate Lance McCullers Jr. (7-1, 2.53). McCullers pitched five innings of one-run ball, allowing one run on four hits and no walks Saturday against the Mariners. He added eight strikeouts and earned the win. McCullers had been activated earlier in the day after a disabled-list stint to deal with lower-back issues. He pitched into the sixth inning, when Seattle finally broke through against him, and finished after throwing 76 pitches (51 for strikes). McCullers is a legitimate ace thanks to his elite strikeout rate (10.7 K/9).

How Did He Do Last Time Against the Yankees?

He beat the Yankees on May 12, shutting them out on four hits over six innings with seven strikeouts. New York’s Michael Pineda (7-4, 4.12) allowed seven runs on six hits over four innings Sunday against the Rangers. He struck out four and walked one while taking the loss. Allowing three home runs will sink any pitcher, and Pineda was no exception. He entered with a 6-1 mark and a 1.92 ERA at home this season. Pineda lost to Houston on May 11, allowing three runs in 6.2 innings. Bet Houston here.

Washington Nationals at St. Louis Cardinals

When: Friday, June 30th, 2017 Where: Busch Stadium, 8:15 PM ET TV: MLBN (out-of-market only) / MASN 2 (Washington) / FS-M(St. Louis) Radio: 106.7 The Fan (Washington) / KMOX 1120 (St. Louis) Stream: MLB.tv MLB Odds: St. Louis at -115 The Nats, off a big series with the Cubs, head out on the road for their only trip to St. Louis. Washington is scheduled to throw Tanner Roark in Game 1. Roark (6-5, 5.15) took the loss and surrendered six runs on nine hits over six innings Sunday against the Reds. He walked two and struck out seven. Roark was tagged for five runs in the opening frame before recovering to toss five innings of one-run ball after that. The right-hander has yielded 19 runs on 24 hits and six walks in his past three starts (13 2/3 innings), and his ERA climbed above 5.00 for the first time this year after Sunday’s outing.

And What About St. Louis’ Mike Leake?

The Cards’ Mike Leake (5-6, 3.12) didn’t factor into the decision Sunday after he allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits and two walks with two strikeouts in six innings vs. the Pirates. Leake had a great start to the season, carrying a 2.24 ERA into the month of June. However, given his lack of strikeouts and extremely good fortune on balls in play, he was a strong regression candidate. That has happened out in June, as Leake has posted a 5.16 ERA while allowing 34 hits with nine walks in 29 2/3 innings this month. I prefer the total – over – to  the side here.

Philadelphia Phillies at New York Mets

When: Friday, June 30th, 2017 Where: Citi Field, 7:10 PM ET TV: MLB Extra Innings / CSN-P (Philadelphia)  / SNY (NY Mets) Radio: 94 WIP (Philadelphia) / 710 WOR (NY Mets) Stream: MLB.tv MLB Odds: NY Mets at -235 The Phils are expected to be without OF/2B Howie Kendrick for a while as he is likely to go on the disabled list with a hamstring injury. He hasn’t started a game in the field in a week because of it. Mets manager Terry Collins admitted Wednesday that they “don’t know how long it will be” before Michael Conforto (hand) returns to the lineup. Two rounds of X-rays confirmed that Conforto doesn’t have a fracture in his left hand after he was hit by a pitch Sunday. However, he is still in pain. New York starts Jacob deGrom (7-3, 3.71). He allowed just one run on four hits and a walk while striking out seven batters through eight innings during Saturday’s win over the Giants. In the midst of perhaps the best stretch of his career, deGrom has gone 3-0 with a 0.72 ERA and a 0.76 WHIP over his last three starts.

What About Philadelphia’s Ben Lively?

Philadelphia’s Ben Lively (1-2, 3.90) took the loss Saturday after allowing five runs (four earned) on seven hits (one homer) and no walks with no strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings vs. the Diamondbacks. Lively has now fanned just 11 batters through his first 32 1/3 Major League innings — too low of a mark to sustain success. Big-time Mets here.
