Dodgers Vs Padres Expert Analysis – MLB Spring Training

Written by on March 19, 2021

The revamped San Diego Padres will look to take care of business at home when they host the defending World Series champion LA Dodgers on Friday night. The Padres (7-11) are sitting in 13th place in the Grapefruit League standings while Los Angeles is tied for second place with the Rangers and Cubs. Let’s take a closer look at both teams and how they arrive into this affair so you can bet against their MLB odds.

MLB Betting Prediction – LA Dodgers at San Diego Padres

  • When: Saturday, March 20, 2021 at 4:10 PM ET
  • Where: Peoria Sports Complex, Peoria, AZ
  • TV: FSN, MLBN, Sportsnet

LA Dodgers

The Dodgers went 40-20 in the regular season a year ago en route to the 2020 World Series crown. For this matchup, LA will hand the ball to right-hander Dustin May (1-0, 3.60 ERA). The right-hander had a solid 2020 season, posting a 2.57 ERA in 12 games (10 starts). The former top prospect hit triple digits in his Cactus League outing on Tuesday against the Giants.

“At this point of the year, I have to go out and do everything that I can. I’m fighting for a spot and we have seven guys to fill five roles,” May said earlier this spring. “I have to go out and do everything that I can to get one of them. That’s my goal, to be on the Opening Day roster as a starter.”

San Diego

Baseball is back in a big way in San Diego. The Padres are all in on young superstar shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. The gifted, five-tool phenom signed a whopping, 14-year, $340 million deal that is the longest in MLB history. Tatis has still, yet to play a full season in the majors. The Padres also made some huge additions to their rotation by adding veteran hurlers Yu Darvish, Blake Snell and Joe Musgrove.

Led by their superstar infield of Tatis Jr. and Manny Machado, San Diego ended a 13-year playoff drought and won a first-round series against St. Louis last season before being swept in the Division Series by the Dodgers. For this affair, the Padres will hand the ball to right-hander Ryan Weathers (1-0, 5.14 ERA).

Prediction

The Dodgers are 6-1 on the road this spring while San Diego has gone an uninspiring 2-6 at home. The Padres come into this matchup looking to shake off a three-game losing streak and that’s just what I expect them to do in this clash. The Padres are 22-7 in their last 29 games as a home favorite and  21-7 in their last 28 games against a right-handed starter. I think the Padres want to make an early statement that they are going to be in the mix to win the NL West crown at the very least this season. San Diego should be going all out in this affair.

Pick: Padres 5 Dodgers 2
