With the second half of the MLB season now well underway, we would be remiss if we didn’t start thinking about the playoffs. Yes, we know that changes made at the trade deadline can have a major impact on the season, but until we know how all of that plays out, the best we can do is look at where teams are at right now. That means taking a look at the possible World Series match-ups that might be in our future. Picking the best possible match-up is tough, as fans have very different criteria in judging what would be the best potential series. With that in mind, I am going to take a look at a few different match-up using specific criteria. I’m not going to consider the World Series betting lines in this piece, as I am looking at totally different viewpoints in order to come up with some potentially awesome match-ups.

The World Series the Fans Want

While I certainly cannot speak for every single baseball fan, I think I know fans of the sport well enough to get an idea of which match-up would really get them excited about the 2016 World Series. In my opinion, that would be a meeting between the Boston Red Sox and the Chicago Cubs. These are two of the biggest franchises in the sport, and it would be a lot of fun to see them battle it out for a championship. You have a great storyline here, too, with the young Cubs going against the veteran talent in Boston, including Big Papi, who is having an incredible final season.

The World Series for Fans of Pitching

This is one that could definitely change after the trade deadline, as you can bet that a lot of the top teams are going to be looking at adding arms over the next week. For now, though, let’s look at a potential World Series match-up based on the current ERA of each team. The best in the National League right now are the Washington Nationals, which really isn’t much of a surprise to anyone that follows the game. As it stands at the moment, they would be going against the Cleveland Indians, who have the best team ERA in the AL. Both of these teams have comfortable leads in their division, and look like playoff locks right now.

World Series for Fans of Offense

While purists of the game love those low scoring pitcher’s duels, there are also fans who love a healthy serving of offense. Based on OPS this season, you would be looking at a Red Sox/Cubs World Series, but since we have already covered that potential meeting, let’s take a look at another that might fit the bill. The St. Louis Cardinals and Toronto Blue Jays are both teams that know how to rack up the runs, and when you consider that the Jays are also up there in team ERA, this match-up suddenly doesn’t look outside the realms of possibility.There is still a lot of baseball to be played, and the betting odds for each team are sure to change over the next couple of months. That said, any of these 3 match-ups would be something I think we would all enjoy watching.
