Giants vs Rockies MLB Odds & Pick for Wednesday Night

Written by on May 8, 2019

There is nothing worse than making some serious preseason predictions and watching them blow up in your face in no time at all. Sure, there is still a long, long way to go this season, but there are a couple of picks that I have made that already look to be more than a little dodgy. One of those came in looking at the NL West, where I thought that the LA Dodgers might just be a little vulnerable this season. I did think that they would get into the postseason through the Wild Card route, but I have the Colorado Rockies winning the division this season.

They have not been doing much to back up my faith in them, though, as they are currently wallowing down in the cellar of the West. The Rockies have the same record as the Giants and now have a chance to move ahead of the Giants with a win on Wednesday night after losing the first game in this series. The Rockies are favored by 1 ½, with the O/U set at 9 ½.

Why bet on the San Francisco Giants?

The Giants climbed out of the cellar in the West with a devastating 14-4 win over the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday night. The win was not that surprising, but the nature of the victory certainly was, as the Giants have not exactly been a dominant offensive force in the early going of the 2019 season.

Overall, the Giants have managed just 136 runs this season, far and away from the lowest in the division and also among the lowest in the conference. This is also a team that has a losing 9-11 record on the road, so yet another reason why that win was a surprise. As a road dog this season, the Giants are 10-10 ATS. It will be Derek Holland (1-4, 5.34 ERA) who gets the start here.

Why bet on the Colorado Rockies?

With the loss to the Giants on Tuesday night, the Rockies now share the same 16-20 record as their division rivals. It’s well below the pace I thought they would be setting at this point, with their biggest issue, or at least one of them, being their inability to consistently win at home.

The Rockies have been great at Coors Field over the years, but they are currently sitting at 6-10 there, which is simply not good enough. They have been very poor against division rivals, going just 4-9 SU versus teams from the West. That needs to change quickly if they are to haul themselves into this race. Their home numbers are bad on every level, as they are also just 3-6 ATS as a home favorite. They will send Jon Gray (3-3, 4.22 ERA) to the mound for this one.

Team Stats

Offense
  • Runs: 4.72
  • Hits: 8.33
  • Walks: 2.97
  • Strike Outs: 9.47

Defense

  • Runs: 5.22
  • Hits: 9.06
  • Walks: 3.64
  • Strike Outs: 8.14

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

The loss to the Giants on Tuesday night was the first time in the last 7 home meetings that the Rockies had dropped a game to San Francisco. That leads me to believe that they might be able to bounce back and get the win on Wednesday night.
