With a quarter of the season in the books, we can now look at the body of work of any given team and confidently declare whether they have a chance to compete, or are destined to be truly awful for the remainder of the season. We are still somewhat on the fence with the Baltimore Orioles, but have our minds made up about the Miami Marlins. These two teams will play the second of a 3-game series in Miami on Saturday night, let’s check the MLB betting odds for this match.

Time: Saturday, 7:15 p.m. ETVenue: Marlins Park, MiamiNational TV: FoxOpening MLB Odds: Marlins -123, Orioles +113 (7.5)The Miami Marlins (16-26) came into the new season full of hope and promise, but that has pretty much all been washed away after a dismal first two months. The Marlins are by no means the worst defensive team out there, but they are just not very good at manufacturing runs. They are now just 1-9 in their last 10 games, and are in the middle of a 7-game losing streak that shows no signs of coming to a halt any time soon. Other than Giancarlo Stanton, the Miami lineup isn’t really showing anything that would indicate that they can get this season back on track. You hate to write a team off in May, but it’s hard to find any positives for this team. Dan Haren (4-2, 3.47 ERA) will get the start on Saturday. Haren was unlucky to get the no decision in his last start, as he threw a solid 8 innings of ball. The AL East is really beginning to tighten up as the Yankees go into the tank, and that is why the Baltimore Orioles (18-20) find themselves just 3 games out of first place in the division. There were a lot of extraneous factors that helped contribute to an uneven start to the season for the O’s, but there are now no more excuses. The Orioles went 5-4 in their 9-game home stand, and now go on the road for 3 against Miami, where they will need to improve on their 5-11 road record if they want to continue to keep pace in the division. The Orioles built up some nice momentum with a 2-1 series win over the Mariners, scoring 16 runs in the process. Mike Wright (1-0, 0.00 ERA) will take to the mound for the O’s in his second start of the season.

My Betting Pick

Wright was excellent through 7.1 inning in his last start, and I think he will carry that forward to this one, resulting in a win for Baltimore.
