Every team enters the new MLB season with a certain level of expectation hanging over their heads. Some rise above it, while others fall short of what we all believe that we will do. The question here is when we should start judging each team on what they have or haven’t accomplished. I think it’s fair to suggest that it might be a little too soon to start casting serious judgments about any team. After all, we have only seen a very small sample of what each team will deliver over the course of the season.
It’s also all subjective, too, as you will have some people say that the New York Yankees are underperforming even though they have the 3rd best win percentage in the American League right now. To put that in perspective, they would be in the playoffs if the season ended today. The Yankees will try and improve on that record today when they host the Baltimore Orioles in a doubleheader. Why bet on the Baltimore Orioles?
While we did say that it’s probably too early to pass judgment on any team in the MLB, the Baltimore Orioles may be one of the exceptions to the rule. They have just not been very good at all from Day 1 and are currently sitting on the bottom of the AL East with a miserable 14-26 record. Why bet on the New York Yankees?
The Yankees are in a nice little spot at the moment, which may seem odd to say when you see that they are trailing the Tampa Bay Rays by a game in the East. What you have to remember, though, is that the Yankees have been hammered by injuries in the early going.
Their bench guys have come up huge in the early going, and with some big hitters ready to return to the line-up sooner rather than later, you get the sense that the Yankees might be in a position to take control of the division.
