MLB Playoffs Betting Update: Who’s In, Who’s Out From the 2022 Postseason

With just over 10 games left in the regular season, teams are making their final push for a playoff spot, or they’re jockeying for better playoff positioning. As most of the divisional races are decided, we’re keeping a close eye on the wild card races. In the National League, the East is still up for grabs, as the Braves and Mets are in a fierce battle for the top spot. Let’s take a look at the current playoff situation so you can plan your bets against the MLB Playoffs Odds.

A Brief Look at the Current 2022 Playoff Scenarios in Major League Baseball

American League

We’re not going to see any surprises here, as the playoff field is all but set. While the Baltimore Orioles have been a great story, unless something crazy happens, they’re going to fall short of making the playoffs.

With that being said, the top two seeds are pretty much set, as the Houston Astros are the top seed, and the New York Yankees are the second seed. The third seed is also set, as the Cleveland Guardians have clinched the American League Central. Houston and New York have first-round byes, and will be well-rested for their second-round series.

The Toronto Blue Jays are currently the #4 seed with an 86-67 record. Tampa Bay is sitting at the #5 spot with an 84-69 record. The final playoff spot is currently occupied by the Seattle Mariners with an 83-69 record. Seattle is just a half-game behind Tampa Bay for the fifth spot. With just under 10 games remaining in the regular season, we could see a lot of movement between these three teams. While we’re fairly confident that these three teams will be the wild card teams, the Orioles still have a shot.

If the playoffs started tomorrow, the Guardians would host the Mariners in a best-of-three series, while the Tampa Bay Rays would have to travel to Toronto to take on the Blue Jays. We’re looking forward to a wild finish for the wild card spots in the American League.

National League

The Los Angeles Dodgers are the class of Major League Baseball this season. They cruised to a National League West title, and they have the best record in the game. They’re easily the #1 seed in the National League playoffs.

After the Dodgers, things get a little crazy. The New York Mets currently own the second playoff spot and would get a first-round bye. However, the Mets hold just a 1.5-game lead over the Atlanta Braves, and these two teams will meet again this season. Whichever of these teams wins the division will be the #2 seed. The other will be the #4 seed.

Unless they totally fade away, the St. Louis Cardinals will win the NL Central. The Brewers are 6.5 games behind St. Louis, but we don’t see them catching the Cardinals. The Brewers still have a shot at the playoffs, even if they don’t catch St. Louis. They’re just two games behind Philadelphia for the final wild-card spot. The Phillies haven’t been playing well as of late, and if they continue on their downward spiral, they could find themselves on the outside looking in.

The San Diego Padres are only two games ahead of the Phillies, so things could get wild in the wild card race in the National League. We’ll see who can gain some momentum heading into the postseason.
