Top MLB Series to Wager On the Weekend: Cubs vs Yankees Betting Analysis

Prior to interleague play, this was a matchup that could only happen in the World Series. Now, two of the most popular teams in Major League Baseball, the Chicago Cubs and New York Yankees, meet up every few years. 2022 is one of the seasons that they’ll meet, as the teams will partake in a three-game set this weekend in the Bronx. Let’s take a look at the weekend series between the Cubs and the Yankees as this will be a good series to place some bets on the MLB betting odds.

Two Teams Headed in Different Directions

Unfortunately for baseball fans, these two teams are on opposite ends of the spectrum. The New York Yankees are currently 40-15 and have the best record in baseball. They have one of the best lineups in the game, and their starting pitching staff has exceeded expectations this season. We also have to point out that the Yankees have one of the best bullpens in baseball as well.

The Chicago Cubs are coming off of a fire sale last season where they traded Kyle Schwarber, Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo, Javier Baez, and Yu Darvish away for young prospects. While the Cubs won’t say that they’re in total rebuild mode, it’s fairly obvious that they’re rebuilding. The Cubs are near the bottom of the National League Central, and have no hope of making the playoffs this season.

Pitching Matchups

On Friday night, Luis Severino will take the hill for the Yankees. He’ll be opposed by Kyle Hendricks. Severino, who missed most of last season with an arm injury has come back strong this season. Severino is 4-1 with a 2.95 ERA this season. He has a WHIP of 1.00 and has struck out 61 batters in his 55 innings pitched.

Hendricks has been a disappointment this season. Hendricks is 2-5 with a 5.22 ERA this season. Hendricks has traditionally been a slow starter, so the Cubs are hoping that he snaps out of this funk soon.

Saturday’s matchup will see New York’s Jordan Montgomery take on Justin Steele of the Cubs. Steele has good stuff but runs into trouble at times. His 1-5 record is a little misleading, as he has had some very good outings this season.

Montgomery is 1-1 on the season. He has also had some good outings, but doesn’t have much to show for it. He has a 3.02 ERA this season. He threw well in his last outing against the Detroit Tigers

Sunday afternoon, James Taillon, arguably the Yankees best pitcher this season (and yes, he’s been even better than Gerrit Cole) will start for New York. Taillon will be opposed by Keegan Thompson.

Both pitchers have had tremendous seasons. Both come into this one with 6-1 records. Thompson has pitched out of the bullpen and as a starter. He has tremendous potential and has a lot of strikeouts on the season.

Taillon, the former Pirates prospect, has finally lived up to his billing after some injury issues. Taillon is one of the primary reasons that the Yankees have gotten off to such a great start this season. He, along with Cole and Nestor Cortes have been a big part of the Yankees success this year.
