The Dodgers (104-58) won an MLB-best 104 games during the regular season and could have won more if not for a nasty funk they fell into late in the regular season before righting their ship just prior to the playoffs.Los Angeles had a modest year offensively as they finished 22nd in scoring (4.5 RPG), 22nd in team batting average (.249) eighth in OPS (.771), 11th in home runs (221) and 19th in stolen bases (77). However, the defense is where Los Angeles really succeeded as they finished second in team ERA (3.38), first in WHIP (1.15), fifth in strikeouts (1,549), 17th in quality starts (68) and 14th in errors (88).Rookie Cody Bellinger had a season for the ages in smacking 39 home runs and driving in 97 runs while five other players all hit over 20 long balls and three of their starting pitchers not named Clayton Kershaw all reached the double-digit win mark.

Houston Astros

  • World Series Odds: +160
The Astros (101-61) were the best team in all baseball for a big stretch during the regular season and it’s easy to see why, considering they ranked first in scoring (5.53 RPG), first in team batting average (.282), first in OPS (.823), second in home runs (238) and eighth in stolen bases (98). Defensively, the ‘Stros were also very good in finishing 11th in team ERA (4.12), eighth in WHIP (1.27), second in strikeouts (1,593), 18th in quality starts (67) and 22nd in errors (99).Not only that, but Houston got an MVP-caliber campaign out of diminutive 5-foot-6-inch second baseman Jose Altuve as he won his third career batting title (.346) while an insane 10 of his teammates reached the double-digit mark in home runs.

Chicago Cubs

  • World Series Odds: +330
The Cubs (92-70) are the reigning World Series champs, but I don’t think they ar4e as good as they were a year ago despite ranking fourth in scoring (5.07 RPG), 16th in team batting average (.255), sixth in OPS (.775), ninth in home runs (223) and 24th in team batting average (24th).Despite being the defending champs, the 2017 MLB World Series Odds are not with the Cubs.Chicago also finished seventh in team ERA (3.95), ninth in WHIP (1.28), eighth in strikeouts (1,439), ninth in quality starts (77) and 19th in errors (95). The Cubs still have an absolutely loaded lineup of young and gifted stars starting with Kris Bryant (.295, 29 HR) and Anthony Rizzo (32 HR, .273) even if something small just seems to be missing from last season’s focused and dominating squad.

New York Yankees

  • World Series Odds: +350
The Yankees (91-71) got into the NLDS by beating Minnesota 8-4 in their one-game wild-card matchup and then stunned a Cleveland Indians team that won 102 games during the regular season including a phenomenal 22 consecutive games at one point.New York was absolutely stupendous offensively this season after finishing the regular season ranked second in scoring (5.30 RPG), seventh in team batting average (.262), third in OPS (.785), first in home runs (241) and 12th in stolen bases (90).The Yankees also ranked a very solid fifth in team ERA (3.73), third in WHIP (1.21), fourth in strikeouts (1,560), 10th in quality starts (75) despite finishing 20th in errors (95). Aaron Judge mad himself into an everyday name by smacking a whopping 52 home runs, even as a rookie while staff ace Luis Severino turned into the hardest-throwing starter in all baseball. Still, I just don’t see the Yankees getting past a Houston Astros team in their ALCS matchup that is every bit as good as they are.

In the end, I’m thinking the Dodgers and Astros will represent their respective leagues in the 2017 World Series as the best hitting team and best pitching team go at it. However, I’m going against one of the oldest adages and my own belief system that good pitching beats good hitting by predicting the Houston Astros to win the 2017 World Series.I think the addition of veteran ace Justin Verlander to go along with star right-hander Dallas Keuchel and the best player in all baseball, Jose Altuve, will be just enough to put the Astros on top.Pick: Houston Astros
