MotoGP 2021 Styrian GP Betting Preview: Top 4 Drivers to Keep An Eye On

Written by on August 5, 2021

The 2021 MotoGP season has reached the midway point, with 9 races in the books and 10 more still to come. The first of those last races will see the riders in Austria this coming weekend for the Styrian Grand Prix. All eyes are on Fabio Quartararo, who is beginning to open up a bit of a lead at the top of the standings, but as we will discuss in a moment, that lead is far from safe. There are a few racers who could still run him down, especially with 10 more races still to come, but they really do need to start making a move soon and getting some points on the board so that they can close the gap. It’s time to take a look at the current top 4 and how they might make out this weekend in the MotoGP Grand Prix of Styria. Let’s now check our Styrian GP betting analysis so you can get all set to bet against the MotoGP odds.

MotoGP Betting Analysis for the Michelin® Grand Prix of Styria

Fabio Quartararo

Over the last two seasons, Quartararo has developed a habit of getting off to a fast start. In 2020, he won the opening 2 races off the year before adding one more win along the way. Over the final 6 races of last season, though, he went on the slide and did not get close to winning another one, finishing 8th overall. At the midway point of this season, things are beginning to look very familiar indeed. Quartararo has 4 wins already and is a heavy favorite to win it all this season. Last year should be viewed as a cautionary tale, though, as winning a world championship requires riders to be consistent from start to finish. If he can head into the second half of the season with another big result, we might start to believe.

Johann Zarco

After winning back-to-back Moto2 titles, the expectation was that Zarco would make a smooth transition into MotoGP. He finished 6th overall in each of his first 2 seasons at this level, but then had a pair of off years. We were not sure what to expect in 2021, but Zarco has stepped up his game and is in 2nd now, 44 points off the pace. He is still looking for his first win, but he has been on the podium 4 times in the first 9 races. Last season in this race, Zarco was well off then pace, finishing 14th.

Francesco Bagnaia

There is a tight race going on behind Quartararo, with Bagnaia sitting on 220 points, the same total as Zarco. He is another rider that has taken a big step forward this season after failing to impress in each of his first 2 seasons with MotoGP. He is also another rider that is looking for his first win of the season, although he does have 3 podium finishes to this point. He did not race in the Styrian Grand Prix last season, so not much to go on there.

Joan Mir

Mir has some work to do in the second half of the season if he is to repeat as champion in 2021. He is certainly not out of this race by any means, as he is just 4 points back of the 2 riders ahead of him in the standings, and 48 points out of first. If you toss out the French race where he had to retire, Mir has not been worse than 9th this season. Last season in the Styrian Grand Prix, Mir ended up finishing 4th.
