We understand that, at this point, we are beginning to sound like a stuck record when talking about the opening weeks of the NASCAR Cup Series season. It is worth repeating, though, that results have definitely not gone as expected, with longshots making a habit of picking up wins on a regular basis. Last week at Martinsville, it was Alex Bowman who added his name to the list of unexpected winners this season. The question now is whether we are going to see more of the same this weekend at Talladega. It is the Geico 500 that is up next, so let’s take a look at some of the favorites for this race. That being said, let’s get right to it so you can continue betting against their NASCAR odds.
NASCAR Cup Series: 2021 GEICO 500 Betting Preview
Denny Hamlin (+700)
We are 9 races into the season and Denny Hamlin is still looking for his first win of 2021. While you might imagine that a record would have him sitting off the pace, the nature of the results this season actually having him sitting atop the driver standings. The reason he is there is because he has been ridiculously consistent, landing in the top 5 in 8 of those 9 races. Talladega is a track that Hamlin appears to like, as he has landed in the top 5 there in 3 straight races, including winning back in October. Given his form this season, it’s would not be too tough to imagine him repeating that performance.
Joey Logano (+900)
While Hamlin is on top of the standings without registering a win, the 5 drivers who are in his wake all have at least 1. Joey Logano is currently sitting down in the #3 spot and is one of the drivers who has taken a checkered flag this season. He has been consistent from the off, landing in the top 10 in 6 different races, which includes 4 finishes in the top 5. Logano did not have a very good time of it in his two runs in Talladega last season, but if you look beyond that, you see a man that has won there 3 times since 2015. He cannot be counted out.
Brad Keselowski (+1000)
If we are being honest, it is a little surprising to see Keselowski in among the favorites for a couple of different reasons. The most obvious is that he is not off to a particularly great start this season, failing to nab a win yet and landing in the top 5 in 3 of the 9 races to this point. Keselowski is certainly good enough to break out at any given time, but I think we all believed he would be higher than 9th. The other issue is that he has had very little joy at Talladega, with 13th being his best finish in his last 6 runs at that track. He does have 4 career wins there, but the last one came in 2017.
Chase Elliott (+1000)
Elliott is quickly discovering that winning a championship in back-to-back seasons is incredibly difficult. The champ is sitting down in the #7 spot at the moment and is also still looking for his first win of the season. Like Keselowski, he also has a trio of top 5 finishes, but he needs to start getting some wins in order to move up the standings. He finished 5th at Talladega last October, and won there back in 2019.
