NASCAR 2022 Cup Series: Verizon 200 Betting Favorites & Odds Analysis

Written by on July 29, 2022

We are coming off what was a strange weekend of racing last Sunday. By the time the M&M’s Fan Appreciation 400 was done, we have Denny Hamlin in the winner’s circle and Kyle Busch on the podium with Chase Elliott. By the time the post-race inspection was over, both Hamlin and Busch had been booted and Elliott handed the win. It may have been a backhanded way to get a win, but it also means that Elliott is in a staggering run of form, which is something we will go into in more detail in a moment. This weekend, the action shifts to The Brickyard in Indianapolis for the running of the Verizon 200. This is the first of 5 races remaining in the regular season, so the scrambling for points and making the cut line is in full swing. Let’s now take a look at some of the NASCAR Betting favorites this coming Sunday.

NASCAR Cup Series Betting Preview for Verizon 200 at the Brickyard Race

Chase Elliott (+390)

As we briefly touched on earlier, Elliott is in a run of form that is simply quite amazing. Over the last 5 races, he has picked up 3 wins and a pair of 2nd place finishes. It’s an outstanding run that has seen him open up a 105-point lead at the top of the driver standings. Furthermore, we are looking at a road race this weekend, with Elliott being one of the drivers who generally does will in these types of races. That said, the 4 wins that Elliott has picked up this season have all been on traditional oval tracks, so perhaps he might be beaten this coming weekend.

Kyle Larson (+640)

If Larson is to repeat as champion in 2022, he is going to need to start winning some races sooner rather than later. He has just 1 win on the year, a good way off the pace set when he won the Cup Series last season, with that victory coming in the 2nd race of the year. While he has not been winning, Larson has been steady and has 11 top 10 finishes in 21 races. That is good enough to have him in 5th in the driver standings, and he has picked up enough points to be a playoff shoo-in. Larson finished 2nd in this race last year, so definitely one to watch.

Ross Chastain (+690)

If you want to talk about a breakout season in 2022, you need to be talking about Ross Chastain. He finished 20th overall in his first full Cup Series season in 2021 and no one really saw his performance this season coming. He has already managed a couple of wins and is currently sitting in 2nd in the driver standings, which is a massive improvement in a single season. He did not have a great run in this race last year, but given his form, look for a major improvement.

Tyler Reddick (+1025)

You look at Reddick sitting down in 11th in the driver standings and might well wonder why he is in among the favorites this weekend. The fact of the matter is that Reddick is one of those drivers who tends to always be among the leaders when NASCAR makes a stop on road tracks. His lone win this season came at Road America, so there is every reason to believe he might be a factor on Sunday.
