Season Series

The Heat were 3-1 vs. the Hawks in the regular season. The last meeting was March 6 in Miami and the Heat won 130-128. Jimmy Butler had 26 points, nine rebounds and nine assists, and Victor Oladipo and Caleb Martin combined to score 43 off the bench. The Heat had a total of 59 bench points, a season high. Trae Young scored 25 for Atlanta, which got 23 from Dejounte Murray and 17 apiece from Saddiq Bey and John Collins.

Why Bet on Atlanta?

From Jan. 21 to April 5, the Hawks pulled off something no team had done in NBA history. For 33 consecutive games, Atlanta managed to stay within one game of .500. No other team had done that for more than 25 games in a row.

The team fired coach Nate McMillan in late February and almost immediately replaced him with Jazz coach Quin Snyder. Since he took over on Feb. 28, the Hawks are averaging 123.3 points per game and only the Bucks (123.4) have averaged more since then. Snyder won three playoff series with the Jazz over the past six seasons.

For the second straight season, Trae Young led the NBA in total assists, becoming just the fourth player in the NBA since assists were first tracked to lead the league in total assists in consecutive seasons, while being 24-years-or-younger. Young finished the season dishing out a career-high 10.2 assists per game, while notching a career-high 1.10 steals per game, in addition to 26.2 points and 3.0 rebounds. The fifth-year guard is one of only seven players in NBA history to average at least 25.0 points and 10.0 assists in a single season.

Dejounte Murray averaged 20.5 points, 6.1 assists, 5.3 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 36.4 minutes of action this season. The 6-4 guard joins Lenny Wilkens (1967-68, St. Louis Hawks), as the only other player in franchise history to average at least 20.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists in a single season. Murray was one of only three players in the NBA this season to average at least 20.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 1.5 steals, joining Jimmy Butler and Paul George.

Atlanta appeared as the No. 9 seed in the 2022 NBA Play-In Tournament, taking down Charlotte (No. 10) and Cleveland (No. 8), en route to the 2022 NBA Playoffs. The Hawks averaged 119.5 points on .506 shooting in the two games, winning by an average of +17.5 points (119.5-102.0).

Why Bet on Miami?

Miami captured the Southeast Division title this season, marking their 16th divisional title in franchise history. Since their first division crown in 1996-97, no team in the NBA has more over that span. The Heat secured their 13th season of at least a .500 record since Erik Spoelstra became head coach 15 years ago in 2008-09. The 13 straight seasons over the last 15 years tie for the most in the NBA over that span.

Miami was the lowest-scoring team in the league, the only one to fail to average at least 110 points per game in an NBA season where offense is way up. Jimmy Butler (22.9), Bam Adebayo (20.4) and Tyler Herro (20.1) each averaged at least 20 points a game to become the first Heat trio to accomplish the feat in a single season. Additionally, Butler (43 times), Adebayo (37 times) and Herro (35 times) scored at least 20 points 35 times each this season, also becoming the only trio in franchise history to individually do so that many times each.

The Heat shot 83.1 percent from the line this season, the highest for a single-season percentage in team history. Additionally, Tyler Herro shot a career-high and league-best 93.4 percent from the stripe, the highest single-season percentage in franchise history, and has become the only player in Heat history to lead the NBA in free throw percentage. He capped the season a perfect 42-of-42 from the line in the fourth quarter, the only player in the NBA to do so (minimum 40 attempts) dating back the 1997-98 season (when quarter-by-quarter stats were tracked).

Miami won 24 games by five points or less, the most such victories during a single-season in team history, and tied for the most such games in NBA history. Among Miami’s 82 games this season, 39 of them have been decided by five points or less as the Heat have posted a 24-15 record over that span.
