Cousin’s shows he’s going to help the Los Angeles Clippers

The Los Angeles Clippers didn’t land the inside player they wanted before the trade deadline. So instead of forcing the issue, they signed free agent DeMarcus Cousins.

After a single game, it’s apparent that Boogie is going to help the Clippers in their quest for Western Conference and NBA titles.

Cousins won’t start anytime soon. Heck, DeMarcus may not start a game this season or in the playoffs. But what he will do is spell both Serge Ibaka and Ivica Zubac when those two players take to the bench.

The real reason to love Cousins on the Los Angeles Clippers? He provides flexibility. Cousins can play power forward or center. Coach Tyronn Lue can play Boogie and Ibaka. He can move Paul George to shooting guard and Kawhi to the point.

Teams would have big time issues dealing with the Clippers’ size. If he wants to go small ball, he simply plays Rajon Rondo at the point, Patrick Beverly at shooting guard, George and Kawhi Leonard at the forward positions and Marcus Morris at center.

Just having Cousins on the roster gives Lue options. When it comes to playoff basketball, the more options the better.

James Harden out at least 10 days while Durant returns

James Harden won’t play for at least 10 days. Because the Nets got Kevin Durant back, Brooklyn may give The Beard as much time off as he wants.

Durant didn’t start in Brooklyn’s 139-111 destruction of the New Orleans Pelicans on April 7. In fact, he only played 19 minutes. But, man, look what KD did in his first game back from an injury.

Durant scored 17, grabbed 7 rebounds, and dished 5 assists. KD even had a block.

Not only did Durant play great but so did former San Antonio Spurs LaMarcus Aldridge. The center had 22 points, 2 blocks, 2 assists, and 3 rebounds.

With Durant healthy, and when Harden comes back, Brooklyn can play a starting five with James Harden, Kyrie Irving, Kevin Durant, LaMarcus Aldridge, Blake Griffin, and either Joe Harris or Jeff Green. Oh, and DeAndre Jordan is on the bench. Talk about flexibility.

Nuggets climb to 6 games behind the Jazz, Suns within a game

Since acquiring Aaron Gordon, the Denver Nuggets have rolled. Nikola Jokic’s squad is on a 7-game winning streak.

The Nuggets have climbed to fourth in the Western Conference. Denver is a half-game behind the Clippers for third, 3.5 games behind the Suns for second and 5 games behind the Jazz for first.

The Nuggets should play well from now until the playoffs. So should the Phoenix Suns. Phoenix, behind strong outings from Chris Paul and Devin Booker, beat the Utah Jazz in overtime on April 7.

Phoenix is desperately close to grabbing the top seed. If the Suns do, don’t discount their chances of winning the title. Phoenix has a deep bench, a top center, and arguably the best backcourt in the conference. Give both Phoenix and Denver a look if you’re thinking of backing a team to win the title.
