COVID hits the NBA
In the first couple of weeks, for the most part, the coronavirus pandemic had a minimal affect. But last week, COVID hit three teams.
Denver’s Michael Porter Jr. is on the coronavirus list for an indefinite amount of time. The Nuggets are at 4-5, a game behind the Jazz and Trail Blazers in their division. Porter Jr. averages close to 10 points and close to 10 boards per. His absence for sure hurts the Nuggets.
Philadelphia 76ers player Seth Curry tested positive last Thursday. As of Sunday, January 10, Joel Embiid, Tobias Harris, Danny Green, Shake Milton, Matisse Thybulle, Vincent Poirier, and Paul Reed are in the coronavirus protocol. All seven are listed as questionable for the Sixers’ Monday game versus the Atlanta Hawks.
Grant Williams, Robert Williams, and Tristan Thompson, the Boston Celtics frontcourt rotation, sat out last Friday night. Those three players may not play on Tuesday, either.
Without the two Williams and Thompson, Boston beat Washington 116-107. But on Saturday, Boston’s best player, Jayson Tatum, tested positive. Tatum is out for the next two weeks at least.
Stay tuned to see what happens with the Sixers, Celtics, and Nuggets. This week could determine if these three teams will have issues moving forward.
Are the Raptors ready to make a trade for James Harden?
The Toronto Raptors won the 2019 NBA Title behind the awesome play of Kawhi Leonard. Toronto knew that they’d probably sign Leonard for a one done season. It didn’t matter. The gambit paid off.
Rumor has it, the Raptors are considering making a play for James Harden. The Raptors aren’t as good this season as they were in 2019. With James Harden, though, Toronto may have the piece they require to upset teams like Milwaukee and Miami.
Would Toronto be willing to pay Harden for a single season with the chance to win a second title in three years? For sure they would.
We also must give The Beard a big shout out. Even though he’s made it clear he no longer wants to play for Houston, he hasn’t let up. Harden is killing it with 11.3 assists and 27 points per game.
NBA Title odds on Suns drop to +2800
In a single week, the odds on the Phoenix Suns to win the championship dropped from +4000 to +2800. The Suns are officially one of the teams to watch to beat the Lakers and Clippers.
We must remember Phoenix started the season at +6600. Their odds have dropped big time week to week. Three weeks into the season, the Suns are 7-3 with wins against Dallas, New Orleans, Toronto, Utah and Indiana.
If you believe Phoenix is for real, jump on the +2800 odds. The Suns rank third in points allowed, eleventh in field goal percentage, and ninth in three-point percentage. It looks like Phoenix may be good enough to hang with the L.A. squads for the long run.
Have a great week!
