LeBron creeping up to NBA MVP favoritism

The great LeBron James has odds that suggest he can win the NBA Most Valuable Player Award. James is now a +600 choice.

The odds make LeBron a solid third choice behind Luka Doncic at +400 and Giannis Antetokounmpo at +500. Most consider King James the best or second-best player of all time.

His stats are on par with Michael Jordan’s. MJ averaged 30 points, 6.2 boards, and 5.3 assists per. LeBron’s career stats are 27 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 7.4 assists per.

This season, the King is averaging 25.6 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 7.3 assists. LeBron is also shooting 50% from the field and 41% from three. James’ three-point percentage is the best of his career.

Don’t be surprised if LeBron ends up the chalk. Dallas is struggling, which hurts Luka’s chances of taking the award. Giannis’ stats are great, like always, but he’s won the last couple of seasons. Voters may want to reward James for continuing to excel at the old-timer age of 36.

Jazz playing like the best team in the NBA

Are the Jazz this good? After 18 games, Utah continues to blast opponents. The Jazz won their tenth straight on Wednesday after a dominating 116-104 victory against rival Dallas.

Utah is winning in numerous ways. The best squad in the Western Conference based on record averages 113.1 points per, ranking thirteenth. The Jazz rank second in 3-point percentage at 39.7%.

The defense ranks third in points allowed per, 105.3, and second in field goal percentage allowed at 44.2. Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell, who didn’t play against the Mavericks due to a concussion, are the Jazz’s Big Two.

But Utah isn’t a two-person squad. Jordan Clarkson averages close to 18 points off the bench. Mike Conley provides the Jazz their best point-guard since John Stockton. The veteran averages 16.6 points and 6 assists per.

If the Jazz keep this up, who knows? Solid, deep squads like Utah with a couple of dominating but overshadowed players like Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert have beaten hyped squads like the Lakers and Nets throughout NBA history.

76ers beat Lakers in possible foreshadow NBA Title game

In what could end up the 2021 NBA Finals, the Los Angeles Lakers fell by a point to the Philadelphia 76ers. Tobias Harris hit a game-winning shot with 3 seconds left to lift the Sixers over the Lakers 107-106.

The victory could be a foreshadow of the NBA Title series. Both the Lakers and Philadelphia are playing like the best teams in their respective conferences.

One thing about the Wednesday game is how Los Angeles failed to have an answer for Joel Embiid. More than one NBA analyst points out how Marc Gasol floundered against Embiid.

The Lakers were a different team when they won the title last October. If Gasol can’t play defense against the best bigs in the game, Los Angeles could struggle to even win the Western Conference should they meet a player like Utah’s Rudy Gobert or Denver’s Nikola Jokic in the playoffs.

Be careful about accepting the +210 on the Lakers. Make sure you take a long look at every angle. The Sixers offer +1400 odds while the Jazz are at a nice +1600. Both teams send centers to the court that could dominate Gasol and the other Laker big men.
